Culture Eats Strategy For Breakfast

As we gear up for the challenges and opportunities that the new year holds, it's imperative to reflect on Peter Drucker's timeless wisdom: "Culture eats Strategy for Breakfast." While strategy lays the foundation for success and planning maps our course, a key element in achieving our goals, the influence of culture cannot be overstated.

Phrases like "Hope is not a strategy" and "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" underscore the importance of foresight and planning. However, success demands more than a robust strategy—it necessitates a thriving culture that breathes life into our plans.

Culture is the driving force that pushes a company forward, influencing how teams collaborate, innovate, adapt to, and navigate change. It shapes the mindset of individuals and dictates the level of commitment to a shared vision. As we set ambitious goals for the new year, it's imperative to foster a culture that aligns with our strategic objectives.

An inclusive and positive culture empowers employees, encourages creativity, and builds resilience in the face of challenges. When strategy and culture work hand in hand, they create a dynamic synergy that elevates an organization towards sustainable success.

Believing steadfastly in cultivating a culture founded on strong values that support regular and open communication, unity, inclusion, and collaboration is paramount. A place where people find purpose to develop their potential and help you win. Each company possesses a unique vision and set of values. Corporate culture and ethics, fundamental components, define success or failure. Most importantly - Leadership always sets the tone, shaping the character, engagement, and success of the workforce.

Ethical principles govern what is acceptable. In a constantly changing world, a thriving culture stands as a competitive edge for your business, where values and ethics should remain central in decision-making, irrespective of hierarchy or position.

With millennials expected to make up 75% of the workforce by 2025, and up to 80% of people considering culture fit as a key factor in their decision to join a company, culture should be a core pillar of your strategy. Undeniably, the fundamental part of human existence is to belong and have a purpose.

As leadership shoulders the responsibility of hiring and ensuring a healthy culture, the importance of strong leadership cannot be overstated. Managing a growing organization or a global enterprise while maintaining a unified, inclusive culture is no small feat. Entrusting this responsibility to every people leader demands a clear strategy and objective board to identify deviations, along with leadership coaching for continuous improvement and holistic growth—culturally and financially.

A well-crafted strategy, when coupled with a vibrant and supportive culture, becomes a powerful force for transformation. After all, it's not just about having a plan; it's about creating an environment where that plan can thrive and flourish.

Leaders investing in organizational culture, unified in vision and mission, recognize it as the driving force that brings strategies to life. This sets the stage for a year of active realization through a culture fostering innovation, collaboration, and resilience. As we step into the new year, let us not only plan for success but actively cultivate a culture that ensures those plans become a vibrant reality.

Great stuff Machtild Brenholc. Culture is purpose, purpose is culture and both lead to aligned incentives (hopefully) and motivation (most likely) 👏🏻🚀.
