Cybersecurity is also about meeting people and 50K+ subscribers to this newsletter

I'll be next week on Oct 29-30 at the Forum Incyber Canada, for 2 days, hanging around. If you happen to be there, happy to join for a chat.

If you still plan to order your ticket to the event (on their website here), you can use this 50% rebate code INFL5FV7FFK4 (which they gave me to share with the community).

I'm thankful they invited me as VIP Guest (I initially bought a visitor ticket :P and got the top influencer Canada news after). FIC ran an analysis by "Favikon" to identify who are the most influential persons in Cyber Security in Canada, I happen to be the lucky #4 ! (can be verified here on their post )

Alexandre Blanc Cyber Security #4 in top 50 Cyber security creator on Linkedin in Canada

Some of you already reached out, happy to have a quick chat. We are so many on here, but only a few of us actually met. I think it's great if we have the opportunity for a little chat, just hello, put a face in real life.

While this event is covering the impact of AI in cyber, I think I'd love to see more RI (real intelligence) and EI (emotional intelligence) than more virtual fake stuff.

That's the plan for next week !

Shooting in the dark with 50K subscribers ?!

I've been thinking non stop about what to share with you in this newsletter, you are now more than 50K subscribers ! This is crazy, that wouldn't fit at the FIC event :P

Anyhow, so many people are sharing newsletter (you can see the ones people are subscribed to on their profile as on mine here), about cyber security news that I don't feel like resharing the same stuff over and over, I want to bring value. What would you expect to read here ? (I'll keep the quick news wrap at the bottom for sure). Please, tell me, otherwise I'm shooting in the dark !

The news that got me in the latest days, worth a look, somehow, curated content for you

Can A.I. Be Blamed for a Teen’s Suicide? Awareness is key, embracing technology is also embracing risks. Are we going nuts with AI everywhere ? I think so. I hope the hype will calm dow.

FortiGate admins report active exploitation 0-day. Vendor isn’t talking. Cyber security by obscurity is always a failing option, and it's even worse when your provider remains quiet about an exploited zero day. Not pointing fingers here, but more about the global feeling that we are not mature at all with the basics, and yet, we grow our attack surface ever more. (Thank you Bob, a real human that actually care, trust me, he's awesome)

The Global Surveillance Free-for-All in Mobile Ad Data. A great post here, raising how bad we are in privacy, and the actual impact in real life, read on, stay aware, at this point, that's the best you can do. (Brian is awesome, it's an honor to be connected with him, his work is remarkable)

Stealing your car from a distance is getting a very common thing, wireless is weak, and while we are expanding V2V (vehicle to vehicle) communications capabilities, V2I (Vehicle to infrastructure), and piling up connected garbage, we are not even able to secure them. I advocate for the car owners to have the right to override ALL connectivity of THEIR car, and decide NOT TO CONNECT THEM. It's a matter of safety

Think You're Secure? 49% of Enterprises Underestimate SaaS Risks, that's the reality. It's not that risk can't be reduced, it's just that the marketing narrative made decision makers wrongly understand the responsibilities with their workloads. It's been like this for decades. Again, our technological debt is growing exponentially in the cloud.

Cynomi announced the launch of the vCISO Academy, it seems an interesting resources for people that may need an alternative to LinkedIn to stay in touch (you know, like when LinkedIn decide to lock us out and make us disappear, yes, it's kind of a small PTSD for me, as all my business was based on it)

SEC charges tech companies for downplaying SolarWinds breaches, transparency is always the best, trying to deceive your market, partners, customers or investors always end blowing in your face.

AWS, Azure auth keys found in Android and iOS apps used by millions, no wonder why it leaks, the attack surface is huge, issues are spread all over the world tech stack.

Most US Political Campaigns Lack DMARC Email Protection, given how critical this is to manipulate opinion, I don't get why it's not properly implemented.

Finally, if I disappeared from your feed, it's probably because of algorithms shifts. Don't want to miss any of my posts ? Check the bell on my profile so as you get notified for all my posts.

Enable notification on my profile not to miss any of my posts, if ever you want to see them

That's all folks ! I hope it brought value, please, let me know, what would you expect from this newsletter :D Have a great evening, day, week etc :D

It takes a LOT of strength & courage to fight cyber-crime given the overwhelming advantage of predators: they are not limited by the law, jurisdictions, morals, quotas etc, unlike defenders are, they trade with their counterparts in China, Iran, Russia, North Korea, etc. Not to mention the obvious thrill of committing crimes that will never be punished, in addition to financial rewards no legitimate business can ever match. Not fighting is impossible though. Go Alexandre BLANC Cyber Security!
