Daily Pulse: A 'major redesign' for iPhone 7? Remembering Silicon Valley giant Bill Campbell, Amazon guns for Netflix
Beloved Silicon Valley denizen Bill Campbell died at 75. “The Coach,” a Steve Jobs confidante — and 17-year Apple board member — is also credited for making Google Google. But it was Campbell’s remarkable gift and genuine desire to mentor countless future tech power players (or nearly anyone who asked for his help) that drew an outpouring of eulogies.
Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI says Apple will do a “major redesign” for iPhone 7, ditching aluminum for an all-glass case and introducing more sophisticated screen tech. “Kuo has been credited with correctly predicting the features in the latest iPhone SE as well as several Apple other products,” writes Don Reisinger of Fortune. “In a world filled with Apple device forecasters, Kuo is among the elite.”

Amazon introduced a $9 monthly streaming service aimed directly at Netflix. Video is included in Amazon’s $100-a-year Prime service, but this new apples-to-apples, à la carte offering is $1 less than its rival’s most popular plan. Also in Amazon Today, such a shopping deal! $11 for month-to-month Prime membership aimed at capturing holiday-mostly buyers.
The Supreme Court wrote the final chapter in a long-running dispute between authors and Google's book scanning initiative, allowing a "fair use" decision by an appeals court to stand. Google started building a digital library in 2004 and was sued a year later by Authors Guild and several writers.
Another bidder for Yahoo? On deadline day for first-round bids Bloomberg reports that the company which once acquired the oldest of old media companies — the Yellow Pages — is making a run at the internet icon. YP Holdings LLC is tiny in comparison, which means it would qualify for an arcane kind of merger that isn’t so much merger as tax dodge.
The 21 Pulitzer Prizes for 2016 were announced. My own biased reporting: Reuters (my old home) won its second award for photography; Jeff Bezos gets to celebrate the Washington Post national staff’s win for National Reporting; Two New Yorker writers won, including Emily Nussbaum, who as the legendary magazine’s TV critic has what I’ve always thought was one of the most coveted jobs in journalism. Also, perhaps to nobody’s surprise, the Drama award went to Broadway smash Hamilton.

Growing Brands with Creative Marketing
8y"Innovation" can be a misleading and eluding concept. Refinement to market is often more sustainable and winning than new-to-market releases. Nokia innovated itself into obsolescence. (Research Elop's "Burning Platform" memo.) Nevertheless Apple has managed its brand architecture where product brands are closely tied with the corporate brand and reputations. Thus while an iterative product design may be worthwhile, over time it begins to erode the "Think Different" essentials of what the corporate brand ostensibly stands for.

8yPhilip, thats what Ive been saying for awhile now. Apple has lost their innovative edge. All they do now is copycat others, refine the innovation a little, and then rely on the iCult to blindly buy their products. Whats worse is that most Apple users are very snooty about their products. They refuse to acknowledge that Apple is falling behind the times. Just look at their lackluster watches and lack of VR gear. Just wait though, when they FINALLY come out with some VR gear, they will claim theirs is the best. And those watches...bluetooth ONLY to the phone? Thats a waste! With my Gear Watch I can leave my phone at home and my watch is fully functional. Not so with the iWatch though huh. Apple relies on superb marketking, and sheople style customer loyalty. Its sad, because they were the innovators at one time.

8yHmm....Apple iPhone 7 moving from all metal to all glass case. Seems Samsung did that on version 6. Is Samsung now going to sue Apple for copying it's concept. My S6 is a thing of beauty. All iPhone lovers will really like the look just like we have for over a year. Pretty innovative by Apple on that glass case thing. They are such trend setters.
