Dale Winton, ladies football and fundraising
Who would play you in a film?
Classic dinner table question! And one that I have (surprisingly) been asked a lot in the last week.
It may amount to nought, but the story of Coventry United Ladies' season is extraordinary and perceived by many to be worthy of committing to celluloid (do people still say that!?)
As many of you will know, my lasses (above, who play for the junior team) heard that Cov United Ladies FC was going bust just before Christmas. The duo set up a crowdfunder and raised £15K over Christmas... not enough to save a football club, but enough to catch the eye of Lewis Taylor, who came in and bought the Club! We fundraisers will know that skills are transferable, but my year helping the amazing Swim Clubs under the Swim England banner really did come in to play - and the apples had not fallen far from the tree!

BUT, a 10 point deduction left the team well adrift at the bottom of the league - and three defeats on the spin after Christmas made even the most die-hard fan wonder if the stuffing had been truly knocked out of their players.
Fast forward to Sunday the 1st May. After an 8 game winning streak, it was winner takes all versus Watford at Vicarage Road. I could write pages about stadiums with no beer, about the volume and "the volume" of support from Cov, but if you want a moment of joy, watch the goal that Mollie Green scored in the 96th minute (yes, 96th!) and see the sheer joy amongst these players.
I consider myself to be a bit of a macho man with legions of admirers, so why people are suggesting that as Dale has sadly passed, Russel Grant could play me in the film I know not!
Watch this space to see if it ever is committed to video (do people say that either?) and who would play which of the heroic players and off-field team!
