Day 1 of running 55 miles in October to save Jo’s marbles (for Alzheimer’s research uk). 3.47miles/55 miles.

Those who know Jo, knows that she runs Big Picture Training in both the UK and Australia. Jo is currently in the UK and facilitated training in Australia, on Zoom, at 3.30am this morning. She was therefore awake well before the sun rose.

She determined that she could have a quick nana nap at 6.30am and go out for a run, when it got light at 7am. She’s been told by her daughters, Hannah and Charlotte, that she mustn’t run in the dark. "Things happen" to women at night.

Jo’s never noticed anything exciting happening at night but her husband Iain says he’s pretty sure she should have.

Having finished her training session at 6.30am, Jo snuggled down for a nana nap. She woke up at 8.30am. Not only was it well past sunrise but the rain was of biblical proportions.

Not to be deterred, she ventured to the office gym to try out the treadmill.

There was one other person in the gym. Jo avoided eye contact. He was lifting weights and, if the grunting was anything to go by, he was very serious about it.

4.5km into her 5.6km run, Grunting Gary made a high pitched squeal. Jo panicked, and thinking her first aid skills might be required, turned round, lost her balance and fell off the back of the treadmill.

Thankfully Grunting Gary hadn’t injured himself and appeared oblivious to Jo’s "gymdemeanour". For those of you who aren’t gym folk, a "gymdemeanour" is a misdemeanour that happens in the gym.

Stay tuned for day 2. Where Jo might not sleep through her run this time but can’t guarantee anything.

If you fancy keeping Jo motivated, here's the link to donate to a incredible cause. Both of Jo's parents live/lived with dementia, so it's a cause very close to her heart.
