DAY 18: There is light at the end of the tunnel

DAY 18: There is light at the end of the tunnel

Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday was the first day the number of patients admitted to our hospitals went down in comparison to the previous day. To be precise, we had 19 fewer patients, taking us from 440 to 421. This figure, together with the 60% reduction in emergencies this week, and the reduction in the number of tests that we have needed to carry out, means we are now beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel, especially in Madrid.

Other significant developments, combined with the situation just described above, have allowed us to consolidate the level of service in our hospitals:   the number of professionals in quarantine is starting to go down, the manufacture of our own masks is going well (we have produced 60,000 in 5 days!) and - on top of that – this week we will open our second field hospital, this time in Sanitas La Zarzuela hospital, following the opening of the first field hospital in Sanitas La Moraleja hospital on Monday. For all these reasons, we feel we are in a good and stable position to keep fighting until we beat this virus.

Our care homes are also in a more stable position. The confinement of residents to their rooms has been painful to implement, but it is in the best interest of their health.  Our resources have also been reinforced thanks to the new team of cleaners, made up of 100 people in Madrid and 50 in Barcelona, together with a new team of 90 volunteers recruited from staff in other areas of our business.  They inspire us and boost our confidence to keep up the good work in our care homes. We are also happy to see that many employees in quarantine are making a recovery and coming back to work.

In Sanitas Dental, the emergency services are operating well, and we continue to attend implants, orthodontics and so forth in the treatment of patients.  This reminds us, once again, that life goes on.  We are also encouraging the use of video consultations in this service.  You would never guess that 150 of our dental clinics are closed. It certainly doesn’t seem that way.

So, I hope that you can tell that today we are starting to feel more optimistic about the future.  As a team we are strong.  We have put in a huge effort to get to this point but we still have a lot of energy left to keep on fighting until we beat this.  We still have a long way to go, but we are now gaining ground against Covid19.

Let’s keep up the good work.  My best wishes and a warm embrace to all.
