Dealing with Uncertainty in Times of Corona
“There is no certainty, only various degrees of uncertainty.”
Anton Pawlowitsch Tschechow (1860 - 1904)
The (business) world is going crazy – it seems there is almost no other topic: Corona has us firmly in its grip. The combined forces of media, an economic paralysis, and politicians under pressure all but ensure that ever more uncertainty is spreading. Nobody seems to have control over COVID-19 and its further development – meetings with more than a handful of attendees are being canceled, trade shows and other events fall victim to the virus one after the other, companies are being quarantined or employees sent to work from their home offices as a precaution - and entire countries are being shut down.
Both the loss of control and the associated uncertainty about what the future will look like is hard to bear for many people. Yet, for a long time now, we have been living in a VUCA world, in which the human need for security and control is ever less satisfied.
Instead, we are invited to become more secure in dealing with uncertainty.
In view of current global developments, it is particularly important to use this time to develop and strengthen leaders and employees through online coaching, corporate and e-learning concepts. Now is the time to carry the topics of transformation and development into digitalization. Online formats are not only a “contagious-free” manner of education, they are also flexible, location-independent, and economical since there are no travel costs involved. For years, I have been supporting international clients via Skype, Webex, Zoom and other online tools and keep making very good experiences in using them.
How do you manage to act securely, calmly, and confidently in these uncertain times? Let me know in your comments and let’s talk about it.
Sincerely yours,
Thomas Gelmi
