The Death Of Goals, Visions And Dreams

Do you know what today is?

January 17th is known as "Ditch New Years Resolutions Day".

It's the day where the vast majority of people will have finally given up

on their resolutions.

The "new me" that was born in hope on January 1st has already died a

slow, painful death.

Left in place is the "old me" - just a little more guilty and shameful.

Those who promised themselves they were going to get in shape -

most of them have stopped going to the gym already.

"Give up caffeine" - They've made pit-stops to Starbucks and justified

it because they were tired and needed to get something done.

"Stop procrastinating on going after my dreams" - they've put off doing that.

Around the world the dreams that come with a new year have been, once again, shattered.

Laying in the broken shards of the vision they had for themselves is a heavy feeling of self-loathing...

"I'm such a loser. I can never stick to what I want to and get what I want".

The thing is, this doesn't just happen with new years resolutions.

Throughout the year we commit to doing something that will make our lives better.

And yet, it doesn't happen.

We get excited - then either don't take action or give up before we've even started.

Maybe we embarrass ourselves by telling others about our goal - and sheepishly have to tell people we've failed.

We read books, watch videos, attend seminars...

...and with everyone, we get that "new years resolution" feeling.

"This changes everything".

And it doesn't, does it.

9 times out of 10 your excitement fades into normality...until the next thing comes along that sparks that excitement again.

The cycle continues.

Most in the personal development space experience "new years resolutions" throughout the year.

They want to close the gap between where they are now, and where they want to be, but they just can't seem to do it.

They struggle with focus, time management and productivity.

They wonder if they're making the right decisions in order to get to where they want to be...

...so they don't make any decisions at all in case it's the wrong one.

Heck, they even wonder if the goal they think they want to go after will even make them happy if they get it.

And so they procrastinate, struggle with perfectionism, fear making the wrong decision and put things off.
