Deborah's The Full Potential Issue 3

Thanks for being a subscriber to Deborah's The Full Potential

 Deborah here!

Spring arrived since I last said hello!

 My favourite season.

I always feel so so grateful to see another one.

No matter what kind of winter we have had, it still bursts through - joyful and full of wonder! A bit like this video sent to me by a client at Oaken Grove Vineyard (which is a place you should visit if you get the chance. It’s in Henley on Thames RG9 6JG).

Estimated read time 7mins 52secs - the clock is on!

With the UK’s ageing population increasing it will see a larger rise in the ‘Olderpreneur’.

The Federation of Small Businesses, says: “You are never too old to start a business.” Their latest member survey found that well over a tenth of members were over the age of 65, and nearly 10pc of those owned businesses under five years old.

One of the challenges an older business person may encounter is the difficulty in getting funding the FSB said "It is important we work to overcome these issues as, with the UK’s ageing population, we need an economy which allows people of all ages the opportunity to create something new and exciting.”

How do you like the term ‘Olderpreneur’? By the time we get along the ageing line, we will be known as ‘Ancientpreneurs’!

Women in the age group of 25-34 account for the largest segment of female entrepreneurs globally. Right behind them, those aged 18-24 prove there is plenty of growth ahead as this segment is up 73%. (source: Louisa Zhou)

But that figure also hints at another story. Women aged 50+ are encouraging their daughters to be fearless.

After all, we can fail when we are focusing on fear as much as when we focusing on greatness so we may as well give it a go - better to have tried than wish you had. It’s just a switch in perception.

For those of you with daughters, have you any stories you would like to share of their breathtaking bravery?

Zainab Salbi

Oprah Winfrey identified her as one of 25 women changing the world to People Magazine. I have followed this powerhouse of a woman for many years - watching her tread where others fear to go.

Her website tells us that Zainab is a humanitarian, a writer and a social entrepreneur who has dedicated her life to women’s rights and freedom.

She is the co-founder of Daughters for Earth, a fund and a movement of Daughters rising up worldwide with climate solutions to protect and restore Mother Earth.

She has frequently been named as one of the women changing the world by leading publications ranging from Newsweek to The Guardian. President Bill Clinton identified her as one of the 21st-century heroes to Harper’s Bazaar. Most recently, Zainab received the Times100 Impact Awards in 2023.

In her 50s Zainab shows no sign of slowing down (thankfully!) and I can encourage you to catch up with her via Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, Zainab’s podcast Redefined and her book Freedom is an Inside Job.

I don’t know about you but I can only relate to, and love, the title of that book.

V. Nanammal

Nanammal was 99 and still teaching a hundred students a day until a few months before she died in 2019.

Born into an agricultural family, she was initially taught yoga by her father when she was eight years old.

Known affectionately as "Yoga Grandma", Nanammal received the Padma Shri - one of India's highest civilian honours.

If you have been telling yourself that you might be too old to start, or change direction or feeling a bit less than in your business endeavours then read this and let it sink in… in much later life Nanammal started and gained huge popularity on YouTube, including videos of her performing difficult yoga positions in her usual attire, a pink sari. Now what was it that you were thinking of doing but felt a bit too old to attempt?

To CRM or not CRM that is the question. A CRM system - or to give its full title Customer Relationship Management - is there to help keep all details about clients and prospective clients in one place. A bit like the old-fashioned card index box (oh, how I loved mine!).

You can quite easily keep a log of your customers in a spreadsheet if you want to keep it simple. But, if you want to build landing pages and see what your clients are engaging with then consider upgrading yourself.

We have a resources cupboard in the membership with lots of examples to choose from but knowing how you want to use it and what information you want to extract from it is a good starting point. For those of you already using one but are not too thrilled with it or maybe it’s missing something for you - go back to basics and work out that list of what you need. Jumping ship is not unheard of. Then do the research.

Creating a great lead magnet. Building your list of fans is vital. When you have a list of people who are interested in hearing more from you, then you can talk to them about your product or services straight to their inbox. Giving a terrific lead magnet (otherwise known as an amazing piece of information that you have created in exchange for someone’s email address) can often be the first step to a beautiful relationship!

As luck would have it I often run a 45-minute session on this very topic and incredibly there is one this Wednesday 27th at 11am. Who knew?! Save your seat here.

“We connected and the rest is history” Recently, I have been giving time to connect with somebody on Zoom each week, either that I’ve not spoken to in an age or is someone new to me. I’ve had some amazing conversations and a whole heap of laughter to boot. Well, I guess this is networking taken to a different depth. Who can you connect with that you have wanted to speak to for the longest time?

Sing your heart out. Here is a great example of one of my connection calls.

I had a Zoom some weeks ago with the incredible talent that is Clinton Jordan, he is a motivational vocal coach. Man can that guy sing!

Anyway, he runs a great business - From the Sofa to the Stage - and I jumped on an online event of his this week. What a great experience! He is one of life’s motivators aside from his work, he can’t help himself.

If you have a passion for singing or even just want to try and scare yourself to death then this is a great way to do it!

Now, will I see you on my Wednesday Weekly at 11am?

Till next week... how can I help?
