A Decade of Placemaking: From Local Impact to Global Summit

My journey in placemaking unknowingly began a decade ago. From founding Lugares Públicos and later Fundación Placemaking México—impacting 500 communities across 32 states—to my role as Global Program Director at PlacemakingX, this path has been unexpected and deeply rewarding.

Why do I do this? For the power of collective action in public spaces. This shared mission led me from founding Mexican organizations focusing on community-driven public spaces to organizing the inaugural Global Placemaking Summit in 2023.

Let's Jam at the Global Placemaking Summit

This isn't a spectator event; it's a co-creative experience to perform, create agendas, tackle a bucket list of 40 agendas, and empower 40 networks in construction, all centered around placemaking.  Fred Kent, whom I had the privilege of covering in a film last year, said:

"If architecture is frozen music, and planning is composition, then placemaking is improvisational street performance."

What to Expect

• Co-create cross-cutting agendas with thought leaders focusing on people, strategies, public spaces, and global outcomes.

• Engage with over 150 global leaders committed to public spaces from every continent. Seven weeks from the summit, our attendee list spans more than 40 unique cities, with women comprising 65% of participants. The median age of attendees falls between 35 and 55 years old.
