December 2024 Bulletin

December 2024 Bulletin

Market Commentary:

U.S. fourth-quarter GDP (gross domestic product) is now tracking +2.7% annualized. That’s roughly in line with the prior two quarters and evidence of a healthy economy.

In light of this positive news, both the Fed and Bank of Canada lowered their key lending rates this month and are expected to continue downwards.

Key lending rates are important to follow because lower interest rates reduce the amount of interest consumers must pay on money that is borrowed, such as lines of credit, variable mortgage rates and/or mortgages up for renewal at a lower rate.

Consumers paying less interest allows for more consumer spending which enhances companies’ profits and earnings, giving a positive outlook for the market and making investing more attractive for future growth.

Should you have any questions about what this means to your portfolio, don’t hesitate to reach out.
