Degrees are Cool: Making Money is Even Better
My dad was our mechanic, pipe fixer, snow shoveler, and lawn guy. He also our medical doctor: He actually had a black medicine bag with occasionally-expired meds. There was almost no illness that couldn't be cured with Vicks Vaporub and some-very-questionable cough medicine. 🤔😀
My mom was a hairstylist-when-needed. When we lived in Nigeria, she did our hair. Cut my dad's and brother's hair. Styled my sister, me, and herself.
My dad's name was Dr. Parks. He was licensed psychologist, a Professor of Psychology and many other jobs, too. My mom's name was Dr. Parks, she was a Professor of Social Work and an Administrative Law Judge, among other things.
Obviously, my parents were very educated. But, they knew that no one's work was better than anyone else's work. And, they thought that if you had x degrees, but couldn't figure out how to make money to support yourself/family, you were uneducated in the ways that matter.
Degrees are cool. But, it's a lot of broke people with degrees AND student loan debt. Figuring out how to make/save money is even better. IJS.
