Delivering Secure Patient Care in the Cloud

Delivering Secure Patient Care in the Cloud

With the increasing digitization of healthcare, the importance of securing patient data is more evident than ever.  Information security is now more than just a priority, it is a necessity.  With the use of AWS and further digital solutions, the question is raised not of whether we are secure, but whether there is any limit to how secure we can be.

On the 5th of October 2022, Amazon Web Services (AWS) led an invigorating panel discussion hosted at our Melbourne office on how we ensure secure patient care in the Cloud. Panelists included Adj. Prof Paul Eleftheriou, Principal at Nous Group, Lily Liu, Director at Digital Health, and George Patapis, Healthcare Industry Leader for AWS.

The event, sponsored by Induction and attended by industry leaders and health professionals, provided a platform for a detailed dialogue on how digital healthcare organizations can provide an unassailable platform for patient data and the future of information security.

We were proud to have our Head of Cloud & Reliability Engineering, Chris Chen-Hooley, represent us, providing his insights on the topic and what Induction Healthcare is doing to enhance its security capabilities, and ensure opportunities for innovation and advancement.

The Importance of Information Security

The experienced panel all shared views on how cloud security is being used to increase the flexibility of digital patient care, tackle assurance requirements through recognized standards and deliver exceptional healthcare solutions securely in the cloud. The common thread in this conversation between these experts was how important information security was for them all.

The challenges Digital Healthcare Companies face

Healthcare professionals and industry leaders are increasingly concerned about finding the stem of the issue, exploring solutions and grasping opportunities to find creative yet secure solutions. For Patients, it is increasingly important that their sensitive personal data is safe and for healthcare professionals, it has not only become a need to provide this but a basic ethical and moral obligation. It is up to Digital Healthcare companies to satisfy this obligation, to provide this platform.

Chris illustrated the importance of Information Security, and the obligation digital healthcare solution organizations have.  “Getting into the cloud and logging in, that’s the easy part. What’s often challenging for Digital Healthcare organizations is making sure that they have the right controls around that, that the data is secure, and the platform is resilient. It’s about understanding how to manage your system.”, said Chris.

As a committed partner of AWS, Induction not only aims to provide the most secure and optimal healthcare solutions for professionals and patients but actively seeks opportunities to engage with industry leaders and continually grow its wealth of knowledge of information security and reliability.

How Induction is an industry leader in securing patient data

Chris highlighted how Induction is an industry leader in maintaining patient confidentiality and the measures we take in order to ensure this.

Chris continued, “At Induction, we have defined a set of cloud principles including provisioning all our infrastructure as code and implementing AWS best practices for security. So, what we have then is a codified and repeatable approach to enabling a secure platform that is ready to meet exceptional demands. It’s more than just clicking a button however, it’s a robust approach that has removed human error and means that our customers can be confident that their data is safe and secure.”

As a partner of AWS, Induction enables extensive features to ensure the security of their servers through detailed traffic control, web application firewalls, advanced DDOS (distributed denial of service) protection, threat detection, encryption and associated key management,  keeping your data safe and secure.

With the integration of AWS to Induction Healthcare, we aim to continue establishing the next stage in digital healthcare innovation, one which is safer and more reliable for healthcare professionals and patients alike.
