DIALLED-IN: ENERGY FOR ENGAGEMENT

DIALLED-IN: ENERGY FOR ENGAGEMENT

"We are only limited by weakness of attention and poverty of the imagination." ~ Bob Proctor

Whether you are looking to raise energy and engagement with your team or craving more connection in your relationships with customers and stakeholders, I encourage you to take five minutes and give the beginning of this video a quick watch.

I recently heard one of my favourite second year NFL running back's say this after a pre-season practice, "Every practice session is an opportunity for me to get better." I wonder how many employees view yet another Monday morning, another week of work, as an opportunity for them to get better? Considering annual employee engagement sits at 33% in the U.S. currently and just 23% globally, I'm going to say, not many.

When we move from priorities to possibilities, something changes. Try it. Say this phrase to yourself, "from priorities to possibilities". We're going to work through a few reasons why it's important to do so as well as a five tactical steps forward that you can try for yourself.

  • Priorities keep us in our linear brain where we risking looping back to repeat patterns. Possibilities call in our higher faculties of our imagination, intuition, perception, will, memory, and reason.
  • Change happens in the presence of vision. When we can SEE what's possible, we're more likely to move in the direction of what we need to do to get there.
  • A clear, well-communicated call to what's possible builds energy, engagement, and cohesion within a group, team, or community. Consider the Super Bowl or the Stanley Cup. By nature, humans want something to believe in and rally around.

Here are a few ways you can start to move from priorities to possibilities using a storybridge.

A storybridge is a narrative technique used to connect different parts of a story to ensure clarity, continuity, and coherence. What does this have to do with building energy, engagement, and cohesion? Everything.

Whether you're conscious of it or not, a story surrounds your team, your brand, your organization. It loops through the minds of employees. It's a feeling experienced by your customers and stakeholders that they associate with you. It's as palpable as your favourite sports team going from leading a game to losing it - a palpable shift in energy.

A powerful narrative can mobilize your vision; or when ignored, it can wreak havoc on it. Take the following steps to ensure you and your team are dialled in, building energy and engagement for epic impact:

  1. Rebuild a strong narrative: Your impact narrative is a powerful possibilities playbook that gets everyone on the same page. It holds foundational power that compound when a team contributes to co-producing it. You can download our learning guide here <FREE GIFT> to start working on your playbook.
  2. Regenerate hope: When we receive the opportunity to contribute to a vision as part of a team, project crew, or community initiative, we naturally want to play a part in its fruition. As we feel seen, heard, and appreciated, a spark of hope regenerates as we feel part of a greater whole moving towards a common vision built by diverse perspectives. 3. Recalibrate energy, focus, and attention to fuel momentum: As we begin to step into a story guided by a playbook that we contributed to, our imagination fires up fuelled by possibility. We focus on the next right play that brings presence, meaning, focus, and fulfillment to our actions. Like athletes, a felt winning momentum begins to build.
  4. Reconnect your team's collective passion, purpose, and potential with a clear path to what's possible: As we understand our role in the collective journey, we can start to relax into the framework of the possibilities playbook. The storybridge helps to fuel this understanding and build a sense of BELIEF in what is collectively possible.
  5. Restore belief to ultimately fuel possibility: As we recognize our role within an interconnected team (ME-WE-US), guided by impact narrative we were part of co-creating, we are able to ignite our imagination at an expanded level, knowing we are supported by the strength of an interconnected team, feeling first-hand the power that runs between us, the greatness that guides us, and the higher wisdom that connects us.
