Diary of an Insurance Advisor - Blog #2
Fore! Or should I say, "Insure!" You see, I used to be a PGA professional, spending my days on the grass, helping golfers perfect their swings. But one day, I decided to trade in my nine-iron for a briefcase, becoming an insurance advisor. Little did I know that this career change would be like swapping a golf cart for a rollercoaster ride!
When I first entered the insurance industry, I encountered more sand traps than I'd ever seen on a golf course. New to the industry, I found countless reasons to think this wasn't for me. I heard myself muttering, "It's too difficult to make connections," "Senior leadership threw me to the wolves," and "My peers aren't playing nicely." But then I realized something crucial – these were just excuses.
In life, you've got two options: you can fold under the pressure, or you can persevere. And let's face it, most things worth having are challenging to attain. Just like that elusive hole-in-one! Insurance is a lot like golf; it's a marathon, not a sprint. So, chin up, putter in hand (figuratively speaking), and keep going.
Sure, there are going to be some divots and sand traps along the way. You'll reach forks in the road, and your ability to choose the right path will be tested. But when it's all said and done, you'll look back at your journey, just like a golfer reflecting on their round, and realize that you got through it. You made clients happy, built trust, and helped people navigate life's hazards.

Insurance is the ultimate "juice is worth the squeeze" career. It might take time, but it's worth it. Surround yourself with those who are more successful than you. Just as golfers improve by playing with better golfers, your skills will sharpen by learning from the best in the industry.
As I enter the last quarter of my first year at the wheel (no more golf cart steering for me), I can't help but feel proud. I've invested time, energy, and sweat equity into my new career. I've gained knowledge, made relationships, and helped businesses properly insure themselves. It's been a journey worth teeing off on.
What's even more satisfying is that I get to combine my deep understanding of golf facilities with my insurance acumen. I now have the privilege of guiding my former industry peers, not only to insure their staff and facilities but to educate them on the "why." Knowledge is power, and combining my golf know-how with insurance expertise makes my guidance unique and specialized.
So, fellow insurance advisors and aspiring hole-in-one enthusiasts, keep your head held high and know that the insurance industry is your fairway to success. It might have its bunkers, but with perseverance and a sense of humor, you'll find that this career change is indeed the best decision you've ever made. Swing away, my friends, and remember, it's not just about the destination; it's about the journey!
