Digging Deep Dialogue 36: Transformative Technology: RIINO's Role in the Next Generation of Mining.

Digging Deep takes its search for sustainability and innovation in the mining industry to Sudbury in Ontario, Canada. We sought to delve deeper and unpack the zero-emission monorail technology from RIINO Their fully electric rail system is making waves in the industry, ushering in a new era of haulage technology for open-pit and underground mining operations globally. Speaking to CEO and Founder, Aaron Lambert gave us more insight into the man himself, RIINO's value proposition to the mining industry, how deploying their technology aligns with shareholder strategic goals and ESG expectations, how operational teams on African mines can actively participate in RIINO's technology scoping studies and we cap off with what is on the horizon. Let's dig deep and learn more from Aaron.

DD: Welcome to the Digging Deep Dialogue Aaron, it's a pleasure and honor to have you. Can you please tell us more about yourself and your role as CEO at RIINO Inc?

AL: Thank you for having me. My years in the mining industry have given me a deep understanding of its operational challenges, especially when it comes to material haulage. Seeing the need for better solutions firsthand is what inspired me to build RIINO Inc. As CEO, I stay hands-on, collaborating closely with my team & our consortium partners to develop the RIINO. I’m involved in shaping our direction, driving product development, building partnerships, managing finances, and connecting with stakeholders to help us keep innovating and growing.

DD: Let's dig deeper and zoom into your zero-emission haulage technology concept. What is RIINO Inc's value proposition to open-pit and underground mining operations globally?

AL: Our system leverages electric power and rail technology to create a safe, efficient, zero-emission material haulage solution. The difference is clear in the numbers compared to traditional truck-based haulage. The RIINO significantly improves efficiency and cost savings in mining operations by lowering haulage OPEX by 50% to 90% while providing an opportunity to reduce underground development excavated tonnes and CAPEX by 60% to 70%.

In underground operations, traditional tunnels need about 25 square meters, but with RIINO, we only need 9 square meters, which reduces excavation, environmental impact, and development time.

Additionally, for surface mining, we can narrow access road widths that reduces overburden stripping by 20% to 30%, further enhancing operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

DD: Sustainable mining practices are part of the thread that weaves ESG. What is the rendezvous point between deploying your technology and meeting shareholder expectations?

AL: Our technology aligns with consortium mining partners' ESG goals by reducing emissions, minimizing environmental impact, and enhancing operational efficiency. We collaborate closely with our consortium partners to achieve high standards in sustainability and operational performance. We are committed to building strong community and Indigenous relations, ensuring we respect and support the values and needs of local communities.

DD: The African mining industry is actively adopting new mining technologies. How can operational teams on African mines actively participate in your technology scoping studies?

AL: Great question. Africa offers a significant opportunity for us, and we’re committed to building meaningful partnerships with mining companies across the continent. Operational teams can get involved in our technology scoping studies through a collaborative process. We start by scheduling a consultation to understand the specific operational needs and goals. Following this, we provide a no-cost system application assessment to evaluate how the RIINO monorail could integrate into the operation. Additionally, mining companies can join our consortium, giving a direct role in shaping our technology to ensure it aligns perfectly with the unique needs of their mine operation.

DD: In closing, what is on the horizon for RIINO Inc?

AL: Right now, we’re focused on the finalizing the engineering phase and growing our consortium. We’re preparing to move into an exciting new phase in 2025, where we’ll set up a 1km loop demonstration site in Sudbury, ON, to conduct full-scale testing and validation of our system. By 2026, we aim to transition to commercialization, starting with deployments at our consortium partner sites, followed by a global rollout. This is a pivotal time for industry leading mining companies looking to transition to zero-emission alternatives and achieve cost savings. By joining our consortium now, member companies can be early adopters, gaining access to exclusive project insights, commercial discounts, and strategic planning support.
