Director General Vacancy - International Bromine Council (BSEF)
I have been retained by the Board of the International Bromine Council (BSEF) to find their new Director General. The incumbent will retire during 2021. The new DG should be in place by summer 2021.
The International Bromine Council (BSEF) was originally formed in 1997. Its mission is to foster knowledge on the uses and benefits of bromine-based solutions. We strongly believe in science and innovation and through investments in research and development, BSEF members create robust bromine-based technologies meeting the needs of society and economy. Function
Serves as the official spokesman for the association with the overall goal of enhancing the interests and advancing the positions of the association as well as bromine and bromine-based technologies, in particular flame retardants for fire safety.
Assists the Board of BSEF in the formulation of objectives, strategies, and actions in response to public policy societal trends and policies. Executes programmes and projects as approved by the Board of Directors.
Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates staff and consultants globally to assure that association objectives are achieved, and members’ needs are met. Maintain effective internal and external relationships with member company staff and stakeholders.
Develops and manages BSEF’s Operational Plan, global activities and budget
Required experience and skills
· A scientific or chemical engineering background with post graduate qualifications at least to masters level
· At least 15 years post-qualification experience in regulatory and public affairs in a chemicals policy making, regulatory, corporate or international association environment
· Excellent language skills – written and spoken fluency in English is essential with knowledge of other languages considered an asset
· Good knowledge of the international chemical management arena and emerging trends in particular in the EU
· Good interpersonal and communications skills and evidence of networks with relevant policy making, value chain and other stakeholders
· An analytical and strategic approach to addressing issues and challenges
· Capability to inspire the BSEF team and networks and to work closely with related organizations on common issues
· Willingness to travel regularly in Europe and globally where necessary, to meet with members and participate in conferences and meetings
Duties and Responsibilities
Annual Operating Plan
· Develops, with the Board of Directors, annual priorities, objectives and programmes for the association globally
· Reports periodically to the Board of Directors on Plan progress and significant events
· Prepares information for senior leadership meetings as required.
Budget
· Develops a global operating budget to be approved by the Board of Directors
· Operates within the global budget and within the spending authority delegated by the Board of Directors - reviews accounting reports and financials monthly
· Ensures all funds and assets are appropriately administered and safe guarded
Staff and Organization
· Establishes an organizational structure for the association including working groups
· In conjunction with the Board of Directors, develops a staffing and organization plan for administration of the association’s activities
· Recruits, hires, trains and motivates association staff personnel, as required
· Executes contracts and commitments as authorized by the Board of Directors
Relationships and communications
· Develops and maintains relationships with other associations, international bodies, governments, regulatory officials, non-governmental organizations in the best interest of, and in alignment with, the objectives of the association
· Represents the association in public and private venues to ensure that its objectives and perception is understood and enhanced
Reports to
· Board of Directors of BSEF consisting of one representative of each member company: Lanxess, ICL-Industrial Products and Albemarle Corporation.
Remuneration
A competitive package is available to the requisite candidate.
The term of this assignment is for an initial three-year period, with an option to renew if both parties are in agreement.
This is a very senior and influential role based in Brussels.
