Discover 3 Empowering Concepts to Help Your Business Flourish in 2024
Abe Brown, MBA, M.R.Ed, PCC The workforce and the business world are not what they used to be 30, 20, or even 10 years ago. It was a common theme for people to find a job in a factory, company, or corporation and spend their entire adult lives working for that single enterprise. That is no longer the case today in 2024. In fact, that hasn’t been the case for some time now. There are two types of people who have emerged in this new economy…
The first type sits around and feels sorry for himself or herself. The second type takes the proactive approach by learning to become an entrepreneur. For this type of individual, the opportunities are endless. In this post, we’ll explore a few empowering ideas that can help you flourish in the business world of 2024. Keep reading to learn more.
1. This is the Most Exciting Time to Be Alive
You hear a lot of doom and gloom out there. The news, social media, dishonest politicians, etc., are constantly spewing negativity about the economy and the world at large. And while, yes, we are facing many problems as a society, that doesn’t mean there’s no hope for the future. On the contrary, with the right attitude, mindset, and some elbow grease, your future can be much better than you can even imagine!
For example, my career has enabled me to work with people on the other side of the planet. That opportunity was not available to me—or anyone else, for that matter—only 40 or 50 years ago. As a result of the unprecedented connectivity we get to enjoy, this is the most exciting time in human history to be alive.
2. All You Have to Do is Keep Trying
What holds us back in life is not the economy, or the inflation rate, or the interest rates. Yes, those can be factors; however, it’s the fear of failure that holds most of us back. We think, “What happens if I actually try and put it all out there and fall flat on my face?” Here’s the deal… All you have to do in life is keep trying. Be your own best friend and continue pushing forward every day.
Why? Because you’ll have plenty of people who will tell you that your idea is dumb, impractical, or fill in the blank. That’s why you need to just keep trying. Fail forward. You have to be on your side; enough people will try to sabotage you. Don’t sabotage yourself with limited thinking.
Progress Over Perfection
You’re not trying to aim for perfect here. All you need to do is try to make a little progress each day. With that in mind, ask yourself: What does progress need to look like for you? Comparing yourself to Warren Buffet, Alex Hormozi, or anyone else that you admire is a recipe for disaster.
Instead, you need to examine your current situation and determine what you need to do to move forward. That simple process has been a game-changer for me. Why? Because I can’t control the past and I have no idea what will happen tomorrow. So, that means today is all I really have.
3. Relationships Matter
One thing I discovered in my entrepreneurial journey is that relationships matter. In my early days of business, I learned a few harsh life lessons. Perhaps the most painful lesson was that there are people out there who will take advantage of you. I have a funny story (at least, I see it through a humorous lens now that enough time has passed separating me from that experience).
My marriage had just ended, and I had given everything to my ex-wife. All I had was good credit. But I started working with this guy, who was a stucco guy. I didn’t even know what stucco was at the time, but he asked me to be his sales manager.
I crushed it in the first few months, selling more stucco in 60 days than the guy did in the previous year. Then, an interesting thing happened. He asked me, “Abe, can you stop at a supply store to pick up some materials? You can put the payment on my account.”
I thought, “No problem.” So, I arrived at the location only to find that this guy didn’t have an account with the vendor.

I called him, and he asked, “Can you put it on your credit card? I’ll reimburse you right away.” The first time, he did, and he wrote me a check. But then, this became a recurring pattern. After 3 months of this, I was carrying $50,000 worth of his bills on my credit card.
And the worst part?
The guy was sent to jail shortly after on assault charges. I knew nothing about what was going on in the background. He was a horrible person. However, instead of whining about how he broke my faith by double-crossing me, I had to own the fact that I allowed myself to get into that partnership in the first place.
That was a hard lesson.
It brought me to a season where I walked around with my little guarded heart (and guarded wallet), not trusting anybody. I went from naive to distrustful, with neither one of those traits serving me. However, I’m glad to say that I’ve found a happy middle ground today.
What to Look for in People
Since I’ve been burned so badly in business, I’ve become quite selective about who I allow into my inner circle. However, I believe in the power of partnerships. In fact, I can only take my businesses so far before I require the skills, abilities, and expertise of others. For this reason, I’m a proponent of forming strong, mutually beneficial relationships.
And there are three things that I look for in the right people; these attributes include:
