Discovering YOU 21 Day Challenge-Day 21: Vision

21.         Personal Vision…WHY are you here living this life?

Striving to remain in the present moment, allows us to enjoy the journey.

But without a destination, what is the point?

What is the overall point of your life?

Where do you want to go?

What do you want to experience?

Who do you want to interact with?

How do you want to ‘leave your mark’ on the world?

A VISION is a destination.

Having a vision, helps you to direct the direction of your life.

You can not control the wind, but you can decide where you want to sail.

Circumstances and events are ever changing, but you choose how you will or will not react to them.

When I know where I am going, a little detour will not stop me.

I just follow the detour or select a different route and reach my destination.

If I hit bump in the road, I do not just quit and stay where I am.

I drive around it or take a different turn, but I keep on going.

I am on my way to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving and nothing is going to keep me away from her caramels, sweet potatoes and hugs!

We all need to have little goals and objectives that support our BIG Vision (which some call our purpose).

It does not really matter what things are called.

We decide what they mean to us.

Purpose

Vision

Goals

Objectives

Action Steps

You define them as you like (unless you are in a corporate job or school, then your boss or professor will tell you what they mean)…and put them in whatever order that works for you.

Really YOU decide, because you are not going to be in that job or school forever.

So, do you have a VISION?

Do you know how to create your own vision?

Like any big thing, it helps to break it down into manageable chunks, sometimes.

Perhaps thinking about it in terms of major areas of life would help.

Create a vision for your health, career, relationships, money/finances, experiences/adventure, education (lifelong learning, remember that one?), emotional/well Being, etc.

It helps me to do the smaller easier pieces (things that pop right into my head and remain pretty consistent over time) first.

Then I use these to come up with my overall Vision (which make my Personal Purpose possible).

Think in terms of what you want to Be, Do and Have.

Your vision should be big.

HUGE.

Reach for the moon and include anything you can imagine.

Your vision is just for you (and like most things in your life, nobody else’s business).

It includes everything YOU want.

Please leave out all the things you do not want!

For example:

Overall Vision:

Combine the items below to support you Purpose (reason for BEING)…

  • ·        I am living my life in a way that is uniquely me and positively impacting everyone and everything.

Purpose:

  • ·        I am here (alive) to experience life as only I can…that is MY creative contribution to the Universe.

Health:

Remember to include all types of health here: Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

  • ·        I am fit, trim and active (for my age).
  • ·        I make choices that contribute positively to my overall health and well-being.
  • ·        We are all one, so do unto others as I would have done onto me…because it is…karma.

Career/Job/Occupation

What sort of jobs or work will you do?

How do you want to spend your time?

Remember MOST folks spend the majority of their life DOING this, so pick something that you enjoy!

  • ·        I am working in a role that uses my unique skills, talents, and abilities.
  • ·        I contribute to the success of the organization and am appreciated.
  • ·        I really love my career.
  • ·        I am in charge of all areas of my career.
  • ·        Only I determine my success or failure.

Relationships:

Family, Friends, Significant other(s), Children, Organizations/belonging (religious, political, special interest, hobbies, clubs, professional), How you interact with other human beings…

  • ·        I have two beautiful children who make me proud everyday!
  • ·        I am in a monogamous, loving relationship that allows us both to grow and BE the best version of ourselves.
  • ·        I belong to a dozen organizations that align with my beliefs and interests.
  • ·        I have a loving, supportive family.
  • ·        I have good friends in various areas of my life.
  • ·        I love meeting new people.
  • ·        I value everyone who crosses my path and look for what they have to teach me.

Finances (money):

This is an area most underestimate what we really DESERVE.

Go ahead and envision the sky being the limit for you (because it is)

  • ·        I am a billionaire inside and out.
  • ·        I have plenty of money for all my needs, wants, and desires…this includes the ability to help others!
  • ·        Money flows to me easily and effortlessly.
  • ·        I am richly compensated for the value I provide to others.

Experiences/Adventure:

What do you want to do?

Where to you want to go/travel?

What do you want to see?

This is another area many underestimate the importance of…we just do the same things over and over and over again…wondering why we are not happy and feeling fulfilled.

  • ·        I love experiencing new things.
  • ·        I love finding the NEW thing in ordinary and routine experiences.
  • ·        I travel at least three times a year.
  • ·        I go to one place I have never been before each year.

Education (Lifelong Learning):

Many people may not have this category on their vision list, but I believe it is very important.

Everything is always changing (energy is always in motion), so we can either choose to change with it or be at the mercy of things around us.

What do you want to learn about?

How do you want to grow/change?

What are you curious about?

What really ‘gets you going’?

How do you LIKE to learn? Hands on, reading, being shown, listening or watching something?

  • ·        I love learning.
  • ·        I love to read.
  • ·        I read at least a book a month.
  • ·        I look for the lesson in everything—every experience, each person I meet, each choice I make.
  • ·        I know that I must learn to grow…so I choose to be learning all the time, about something.
  • ·        I ask a lot of questions.

Being:

Another area of Vision that I may have made up, but who do YOU WANT TO BE?

In everyday living, we often forget who we ARE.

We are all BEINGS having a human (temporary) experience.

It is easy to forget this when you are busy raising children and putting food on the table.

  • ·        I am love and light.
  • ·        I am an infinite being.
  • ·        I know anything is possible.
  • ·        I am one little piece (the most important one to me) of the whole Universe.
  • ·        Whatever I do, say, think, believe, feel…impacts the entire Universe.
  • ·        I am creating my life, so I may as well create an AMAZING one!

I use ‘I am’ statements on purpose.

When you say ‘I am’ you are presupposing whatever you are, already exists, NOW.

This is very important.

If we state things as happening in the future, we will be (forever) waiting for them to happen.

I want to…

Someday…

State things as if you have achieved them already…and VISUALIZE them that way too.

DISCOVERING YOU Activity:

Now it is your turn.

Create YOUR VISION (and purpose while you are at it).

If you do this exercise, both should be easy to come up with.

Overall Vision:

Combine the items below to support you Purpose (reason for BEING)…

Purpose:

This will flow from your Vision.

1.     Write three ‘I am (or similar)’ statements (in the present tense) for each category.

You can do more, of course!

Health:

Remember to include all types of health here: Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

2.     Now write a ‘summary’ VISION statement.

You can make it as long or as short as you like.

It is YOUR vision.

Make a paragraph if you like.

Create a CHAPTER, if that works for you.

Then, summarize it into ONE overall statement.

Write it down on a piece of paper and carry it with you.

Every day.

3.     Create YOUR PURPOSE statement.

Write that down and carry it with you too!

If you have done an exercise like this before, this will be a pretty easy activity.

If you have not, it could take you a while.

Whether you have done it before or not, this is one of those things that should be revisited regularly.

Once every couple of years for sure…

So much of our lives is spent unconsciously, just going with the flow and being impacted by what is happening around us.

It is time for each of us to take back our lives.

Be present.

Be in charge of your own life.

Be Loving.

Love Being.

Be YOU!

Discovering YOU is the most important thing you can do right now.

Sharon

Be Loving. Love Being. Be YOU!
