Ditch the Diet: Embracing Intuitive Eating for Lasting Wellness
Intuitive eating means considering food and nutrition as a part of a healthy lifestyle and not as a strict diet chart. It is a process of becoming aware of the body’s signs and signals to meet the physical and psychological needs. The following principles of intuitive eating helps with lasting wellness by ditching the diet.
1. Reject the diet mentality –Developing a sustainable eating habit rather than following short term fad diets is a must when it comes to intuitive eating for overall health and wellbeing.
2. Honor the hunger signals –Eating only when feeling hungry instead of eating because food is available or at the sight of food, helps to prevent a lot of weight management issues.
3. Make peace with food –Regarding food as a fuel to the physical needs of the body and not the wants of the body and maintain a healthy relation with food goes a long way in order to maintain peace and harmony with food and the eating habits.
4. Challenge the food police –Instead of blindly believing in food habits / opinions shared on social media, try to understand the science behind eating the food and follow what is appropriate for your body’s requirements.
5. Respect your fullness –Understand your body’s satiety signals and avoid overeating especially when it’s your favorite dish.
6. Discover the satisfaction factor –Listening to your body’s signals and eating only when hungry and not over eating when you are already satisfied helps you to feel better and avoid stressing out your body both physically and mentally.
