When I was teaching, I was in charge of a Christmas play at an all-girls school. Determined to sprinkle some feminist fairy dust over the festivities, I stumbled upon this absolute gem of a musical.
The story goes that Santa's retired (probably sipping piña coladas in Barbados), passing the reins to a fabulous female Santa who proudly declares, "It's equal opportunities now, you know!" And however you identify, that’s a wake-up call we all need in the run up to the holidays.
Here's the thing: if you're currently running around like a headless turkey trying to create the "perfect" Christmas for the humans you’re fond of, please pop the kettle on and take a breather. Your loved ones don't want a frazzled, exhausted version of you who's worked harder than an elf on overtime. They want... well, YOU.
It’s a stressful time of year with a lot of pressure on us to create the perfect day. But remember:
Let's make this Christmas less about perfection and more about connection.
After all, if Santa can embrace equal opportunities, surely we can embrace asking for help?
