Do you drink & drive?

Do you drink & drive?

Day 57

Being a certified coach a lot of times my coaching conversation leaves me with a strong deep self reflection. One day during such a conversation I was talking to a young man who said 'Doc I plan to drive back home some 80 kms aft this call'. I knew he had just one small glass of drink but being a complete tea toddler I didn't want him to drive. But he just wouldn't agree I decided to hatch back on my best skill and told him a story. One day I was walking around in a star bazaar, when I saw a cashier talking to a boy who couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The conversation caught my attention because the little boy was was alone & clinging on to a doll. So I choose to quietly stand behind him. I heard the Cashier saying, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll. The little boy turned to me & asked: ''Aunty can u pls count & reconfirm this for me?'' I counted his cash & replied: ''sorry but you are short of money to buy the doll, my dear.'' The little boy continued to the doll. As I couldn't resist I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. 'It's the doll that my sister loved most & wanted so much. I wanted to Gift her for her BIRTHDAY. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.' My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister", the little boy looked up at me & said: 'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.' Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so my sister won't forget me.' 'I love my mommy & I wish she doesn't have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.' I quickly reached for my pocket & said to the boy. 'Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?'' 'OK' he said with a smile & hope. There was enough for the doll & even some spare money. The little boy looked at me & said, 'I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, & I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy both. My mom loves white roses. The little boy left but I couldn't move. The next day our local paper mentioned about this drunk truck driver smashing a car & a young girl passing away on the spot and the mother dying the next day. It mentioned the funeral timing & the final mass. I took courage to go & pay my last respect. The coffin had the lady holding the doll and the little boy's photo he wished to give his sister so she didn't forget him. Just one peg is enough to lose control or drive fast & get that adrenal thrill not realising what's at stake for someone else. My coachee choose to stay back that night and leave the next day.

Reflect in life how often do we do things just because it gives us temporary high? I have heard so many say I know my limits, I don't get high etc. but the bottom line is you are not yourself. The Irony of life is first you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you. Remember people who don't drink have only one disadvantage. When they get up in the morning they feel as good as they are going to feel all day. Let's go ahead in life & make our choices not on the basis of our thoughts alone but also on facts. What has not happened till date doesn't mean it will never happen. How do you read this story

1. What is that one habit you have which you think won't do any harm but maybe it does only when you truly think?

2. What does this story open up for you?

Drink and Drive is not a small fun , Someone else's life is costing else life. I witnessed the same last day , a complete family is no more 😞 . Please take care of yourself and do let others also safe.
