Do you have a superpower?

Do you have a superpower?

Everyone has a superpower.

Your unique life experience and knowledge often drive it. Basically, it’s what got you from “here” to “there.”

Identifying, accessing, and nurturing your superpower can be a real game-changer—even more so for those who turn diversity into an advantage.

For example, Allan Boomer didn’t grow up thinking he’d be a financial advisor—let alone own an independent firm.

Yet an opportunity came up for an internship at Merrill, and that changed everything.

In this week’s featured podcast episode, Allan recollects how his colleagues had family or friends they could call on to build their business, but as a young Black man in a working-class community, he didn’t have that same reach.

But he did have a strong work ethic and a ton of determination.

After graduating from NYU’s Stern School of Business, he landed at Goldman Sachs and dug into that ethos to build his book.

Allan took several leaps of faith over the years, ultimately leaving Goldman and much of his book on the table to become a true fiduciary, launching RIA Momentum Advisors.

He talks about tapping into what he sees as his real superpowers – his youth and diversity notwithstanding – to build a “100-year business” and a home for other diverse advisors. Listen in for a perspective that is equally relatable and unique.

So, how are you tapping into your superpower?

Happy to discuss,

Mindy Diamond

Transition of the Week

Why it Matters:

Another $1B+ team leaving Merrill is certainly noteworthy. Large teams like this have every option available to them, including staying at the firm to continue their run of success. 10+ years ago, every large team would move from wirehouse to wirehouse; today, an expanded landscape of opportunity for advisors means that’s no longer a given. Still more than half the time, advisors will transition within their channel (i.e., wirehouse-to-wirehouse or independent-to-independent) since there are stark differences between firms and the attributes that enable a team’s success (such as a global brand, comprehensive resources, and turnkey business support) can be replicated.
