Do You Have Time For Yourself
Hello, I'm Lee Broders.
Do you ever have time for yourself?
This might sound a funny question considering the situation we're in with lockdown and not being able to meet people we used to interact with, where we're not meeting people outside of our households.
However, I mean, do you take time for yourself?
Well, with all of us living busy lives with work, family, and friends, it is often that we feel or are labeled as being selfish or unproductive when we take time for ourselves.
But we have to remember that we have to look after ourselves before we can help others.
For those who have flown on a plane with an airline, in the safety brief we're told that if there is issues and the oxygen masks drop down, we should put on our own mask first before helping others.
I'm sure they're onto something because all the airlines follow the same pattern. Anyway, back to how we can spend time with ourselves, working on our mindset and our mind health.
Now, this time is very important, especially in this digital age where we're on a constant call with technology. It doesn't matter how busy you are, we all need to make the time to keep ourselves stable and balanced.
Here are some benefits of having time to yourself.
- You can explore your creativity
- You can develop and explore your interests
- You can build mental strength
- You can plan your future
- You're able to relax
- You can learn more about yourself
- You can improve emotional regulation
All of these can help you increase the level of fulfillment and satisfaction in your life, giving you the downtime you need and helping you recharge your batteries.
This can be one of the best changes you can make, finding more time in your schedule for yourself.
Time to yourself, takes you away from responsibilities and commitments, where you're able to have an empty space that you can fill with whatever you want to, to focus on you, your interests, it also peaks your curiosity with it being whenever you need it right there and then.
Here are seven intentional steps to help you find time for yourself.
- Understand your self worth. It is important for us to realise the importance of ourselves.
- Make time for yourself a priority. We often get pushed to the end, so finding time for ourselves must be a priority and non-negotiable.
- Setting your intention to make it work. Be specific, targeted, and decisive about what you intend to do, why and how.
- Create boundaries. Creating boundaries allows you to create time for yourself, not being scared to say no and feel pressured to do things.
- Establishing routines. Make time for yourself as part of your daily schedule, which will become easier over time and become a strong habit.
- Finding your motivation. Find the real reason to spend time with yourself and give yourself incentives to find that special time.
- Practicing acceptance. Be realistic with expectations and remember that doing something is better than doing nothing and don't feel frustrated if it doesn't work every single day.
Remember, making time for ourselves is very important and to do it, means we need to think differently about how we regard time.
We should find the time to prioritise ourselves, only then are we able to help other people who come into our life, not feeling guilty or bad about using the time to heal ourselves.
I hope you found this insightful and useful.
