Do you need glasses?

Are you seeing your talent management strategy clearly? Because I'm seeing it through a new lens these days because a recurring topic has caught my attention in my recent conversations with our fellow HR leaders. Those with a keen eye on the future are weaving Internal Mobility into the intricate fabric of their hiring strategies. This strategic approach reflects a forward-thinking mindset that goes beyond the conventional hiring landscape.

My team and I have identified four lenses we believe HR leaders should look through when navigating the complex recruitment landscape – focusing on the present, nurturing future potential, embracing backfilling, and enhancing strategic planning.

  1. Hiring for Now: Establishing a solid foundation for future internal mobility begins by addressing current needs. Organizations should not view hiring for the present in isolation. When bringing new talent on board, look beyond immediate skills and delve into candidates' adaptability and growth potential.
  2. Hiring for Future Potential: Central to a successful internal mobility strategy is identifying and nurturing talent with the potential to evolve within the organization. This lens encourages looking beyond immediate job requirements and assessing candidates for their growth mindset, leadership qualities, and cultural fit.
  3. Backfilling: Backfilling is a key component of the internal mobility process. Neglecting it risks resource gaps, lower team efficiency, and potential burnout in staff. A clear strategy involves identifying successors, cross-training, and building a talent pool for smooth transitions. A well-executed plan minimizes disruption, fostering internal mobility as a rewarding career path.
  4. Planning Ahead: Strategic planning is the cornerstone of successful internal mobility initiatives. We recommend regular talent assessments, identification of high-potential individuals, and aligning training programs with future business needs.
