DOES TIME HEAL ALL WOUNDS?
Most of us have heard this phrase at some point in our lives:
Time heals all wounds
So what do you make of this phrase? Is it relevant to you? Does it ring true? Or do you just not believe it?
We have all dealt with some form of hardship, some of us more than others, and now, with this world crisis, certain people are living in a lot of fear and experiencing a lot of pain and even perhaps death of loved ones. Many of the things we're experiencing come as a shock or are unprecedented. The wounds are not only related directly to the virus impacting people with its illness but the consequences of it, including job loss, cancelled trips and life events, curfews, limited or nonexistent physical engagement with loved ones, difficulty paying bills and anything else that may come along on our daily experiences as they unfold.
Do you think time will heal these wounds?
Do you think time will heal these wounds? That time, the passing of it, you going through the motions, and making the best of what you can, maybe even distracting yourself or being creative, doing something very new, will help heal the wounds? Of course only time will tell and we can't see into the future but from my life experience, I know that time doesn't perfectly heal all wounds but it does help with the healing.
Of course only time will tell...
After my mom passed away over 5 years ago, the first days, weeks and months were extremely difficult. I would break down and cry in the shower, or when thinking of her not being with me physically anymore. It wasn't easy, and no one would expect it to be. But through time, dealing with this loss and this big gaping wound, it started to get better, and I dealt with it better. Continuing on with my life as my mom would have wanted me to, finding joy and laughter and not losing the lively spirit she instilled in me. So could we say time healed this wound? I think it absolutely helped. The wound is still there, I don't believe it will ever fully go away but I do believe that with time it can begin and continue the healing process. And time does not mean just watching the clock and watching time go, but with what we as humans can do with the time, how we can productively fill it so the passing of it can help heal the wounds we have.

What wounds have you suffered from that time has helped? Which wounds are healing and which are still raw and painful? Some wounds can cause us pain for decades, others are less deep and can heal rather quickly. Are you suffering from long time wounds or are your wounds more recent? I can't even begin to imagine what each person in this planet is experiencing. No one knows how the other is fully dealing with this but we each know how we personally are dealing with it. Some better than others, some luckier than others, some not so much. Where do you fall in all this?
Are you suffering from long time wounds or are your wounds more recent?
Do you believe time is on your side, that it will get better eventually? Or do you believe it will just get worse? It's all in our experience and perspective. I believe time is on our side yet we have to play an active part in how we spend our time, in our intentions of filling the time productively to heal ourselves. Time is like our partner rather than an all powerful being just guiding us. We have a lot of agency in how we work with time, when we have it, and the choices we make to use it. Time is the great equalizer, and it's a resource that we all have access to, when we are alive so let's work with it, utilize it and appreciate what we have of it. Let it help you and be an active partner to it in the process of healing your wounds.
