Dominate To Win
Dominating to win starts with you. Then it spreads to the people who work for you, your customers, and competitors. To do this, you must be the leader and own your space.
Many people never master this concept. You can’t dominate your business or life unless you dominate your own mindset first. You do this by learning to control your thinking, your actions, and your choices.
When you don’t dominate and control yourself, you can waste years of your life. If you aren’t setting a clear course, your energy goes everywhere and nowhere.
It’s a bad idea to ignore your ambitions, your energy, and your obsessions. But it’s even worse to let them take their own course. That only ends up wasting energy and resources.
I have felt the most confused in my life when I had more choices than I could handle. What I realized is that it is ultimately up to me to set rules for myself.
You need to develop the capacity to analyze each area of your life so that you can dominate those that are most important to you.
Dominate Your Thinking
When I started my sales training business, I was the first and only employee. I wore every hat in the company, from accounting to shipping. My life revolved around finding out what worked and repeating that again.
Even though I was obsessed with work, I was driven by pain, loss, and fear. I was insecure and certain the success would last only so long. While obsession was working for me in some areas, I had not yet given myself full permission to go big in this space.
You don’t want issues beyond your control steering you. If your problems own you, it’s only a matter of time before they lead to disaster. Until you learn how to get rid of the negative and to focus completely on your potential and your goals, you will always feel you are falling short. But when you define your real obsessions and make them the things you invest all your time and energy in, everything will start to change.
Until you figure out how to get rid of limited thinking, focus on reining in beliefs or behaviors that set you back. If you know you’re weak in a certain area, move to dominate the problem so that it is no longer an issue. If alcohol is a problem for you, get it out of the house. If drugs are your vice, flush it down the toilet. There is no domination without discipline.
Similarly, be careful about who you spend your time with. The people in your life are either a good influence or a bad influence. There is no gray area. If you don’t know what side they are on, you should not spend time with them. I won’t and don’t. Fill your time up with supportive people.
Dominate Your Time
People constantly ask me, “How do you get everything done?”
Easy: I write down the parts of my life that I want to be great in, and then I become obsessed with them. I make time for them rather than make excuses.
Your time and your focus are precious, so treat them that way. There’s time to do it all when you make time and quit managing it.
Case in point: I am committed to making time for my family. To pull this off, I have to be smart about it. I get my two daughters up early each morning and the three of us hang out together. After fifteen to thirty minutes of quality time, they’re done with me. They eat, and then we all get ready for school or work.
Kids don’t need hours of your time. They just need some of your time. By being both committed to spending time with my kids and creative about how I do that I make my time fit my needs. I don’t manage time—I make time.
By the way, it’s not just about what the kids need. Parents need time together too. My marriage doesn’t exist in a vacuum, either. Running businesses, a marriage, a family, and the rest of life is a challenge.
My wife and I do as much as we can together in business. We look for opportunities to work together and grow the brand. We take what each of us is good at and then invest energy in that.
Blank space in my calendar leads to boredom, which has gotten me into trouble in the past. To avoid that, I fill up my time with appointments and activities. I literally run from one meeting to the next. When I fly into a city to do one meeting, I will stack my calendar with other meetings in that area.

Also, stop wasting time on tasks that don’t matter and don’t fuel your obsessions. Pay someone else to do tasks that aren’t a part of your obsession. For example, mowing the lawn and washing the car doesn’t get you closer to your goal. So pay someone else to do these chores for you.
Dominate Your Money
Your job is to first get your own head right about money.
Money is a major area that you absolutely have to dominate.
For most people, money is a constant concern. Every time they go to the doctor, they fear the deductible. When they go to the grocery store, they have to make decisions about what they can and can’t buy. Every time they get paid they are reminded of the way they think about money.
But the lives of people who are barely making it financially cannot be fixed by just giving them more money. Most of us are brought up poor or middle class and then left to live the rest of our lives with the beliefs of the poor or the middle class.
Because we grew up with these limiting beliefs, we end up full of doubt and confusion about our finances. Still, even if we are confused about money, each of us can work to overcome the money mentality we inherited.
If you have a problem with anything in life, the first thing to do is admit it. If you are constantly haunted by money, admit that. Only then can you switch your scarcity thinking into abundance thinking.
Don’t forget: What you are obsessed with will become a reality. If you’re obsessed with money problems, you’ll always have money problems. If you focus positively on what money means to you, you’ll figure out how to get more of it.
Early in my life, my money mantras were phrases like “Money doesn’t grow on trees,” “A penny saved is a penny earned,” “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” and on and on. These all pointed to why I didn’t have financial success.
In 2008, after the economy crashed, I woke up about money. A bank where I had three big real estate loans defaulted. I watched the millions of dollars I had accumulated through hard work disappear overnight.
The fact that a bank defaulted made me realize that anyone who quits paying attention can bust out. I myself had quit being obsessed and backed off on my hustle. I swore I would never do that again. And I got obsessed with digging my way out.

1y2009-10 rough for me, company closing, layoffs and dry market. Things were sort of average a while, 2022-23 have been dry also, am very careful, focused on money but now been out of work since March, this week is August, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, July* savings depleted and no work on the horizon, offering alternate work? No takers, need someone who might know (some things). I like to work hard, once had 3 jobs at the same time + college (2 fulltime, 1 part time). Would sign up but nothing for the fee.
