Don't tell someone to get over it. Help them get through it.
The employee was written off and on the way out. She had a great track record, but by the time I became her manager she was sidelined.
I was puzzled - how could an innovator with patents and successful projects become a mediocre performer.
Long story short, her previous manager kept criticizing her every decision and micromanaged her every step until she lost motivation, self-belief, and self-appreciation.
The problem was not difficult to unwind. I just gave her freedom, showed her trust and appreciation of her opinions.
Within a few months she made a huge difference for the company. My own boss was so surprised - "Susan did this ?? Wow !"
When employee does not perform, they usually blame the employee for their performance.
But
If we treat employees like they can not do the job, they will not.
If we make people feel like they are rock-stars, they will be rock-stars.

6yWish I had a dollar for every time I heard that reply. If it was that simple to get over, it wouldn't be a problem because I would have done it already. My best take is that if it is difficult to get past, you cared deeply about the event, circumstance, etc. and were simply struggling with finding the solution.
