Double Recruiter Productivity With Less Time & Stress

Everyone in the recruiting industry wants to be more productive to fill more jobs. The question is, how do you accomplish this goal in a way that’s sustainable and satisfying to you?

When I ask my clients what they think they can do to fill more jobs, they often say things like:

  • I need to be more focused and less distracted
  • I need to work harder and smarter
  • I need to follow through and take action on my most important tasks
  • I need to talk to more people in my target audience

When I then ask why they aren’t already doing these things, they usually display a “sheepish grin” and tell me things like:

  • I start my day with a plan, but then things come up, and my plan goes “out the window.”
  • I’m constantly jumping around from task to task and don’t do enough of the things that matter most.
  • I  have so much to do that I get overwhelmed and stressed and don’t even know where to begin.
  • I’m constantly interrupted by other people (candidates, clients, coworkers, etc.), so it’s impossible to “get into a groove.”
  • Frustrations and disappointments occur, and I struggle to get back on track.

Do any of these situations sound familiar? If so, I have good news and bad news for you.

First, the bad news: Common solutions that many people think will work are usually ineffective:

  • Trying harder or working more hours. Unless you’re not already trying or are investing insufficient time working, these strategies can lead to diminishing returns, stress, and burnout. 
  • Better processes and technology. Processes and technology don’t “self-execute.” Knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things. They don’t solve the root causes of low productivity. 

Now, the good news:  Recruiter productivity can be solved with more effective knowledge, skills, and habits. 

Most people don’t receive great productivity training, and this has led to poor productivity habits. Plus, the inherent challenges of the recruiting industry far exceed the knowledge and skills required to be productive in most other endeavors.
