Doubt

Doubt

Doubt is a state of mind in which the mind remains suspended between two or more contradictory propositions, unable to assent to any of them. Doubt on an emotional level is indecision between belief and disbelief.

The word 'doubt' can refer to the cognitive process, as well as the negative emotion it sometimes involves. If someone is trying to decide whether they feel like having peanut butter or jelly on their toast, they are cognitively doubting, but probably not experiencing a negative emotion.

Doubtfulness is a lack of conviction or certainty: doubt, dubiety, dubiousness, incertitude, mistrust, question, skepticism, suspicion, and uncertainty.

If you have doubt or doubts about something, you feel uncertain about it and do not know whether it is true or possible. If you say you have no doubt about it, you mean that you are certain it is true. If you doubt someone or doubt their word, you think that they may not be telling the truth.

Doubt in relationships, particularly after being with your partner for a long period of time, is a common feeling we all may undergo at some point. It's normal to have fear or uncertainty about the person you are with. It's part of the human nature.

Self-doubt however, brings fear, such as the fear of failure, of the dark, of being out of control, of not being good enough. We fear loving because we doubt our ability to love and so fear rejection; we fear being generous because we doubt our capacity to generate more and fear we will not have enough.

Self-doubt is in some ways a lack of confidence in oneself and one's abilities, and having no confidence in taking decisions. Insecurity however, is uncertainty or anxiety about oneself and lack of confidence, a feeling of not being sure of their own abilities or of whether people like it. They are pretty-much the same. Except that, insecurity can be temporary; and low self-esteem is a more permanent state.

From a legal perspective, a reasonable doubt exists when a fact-finder cannot say with moral certainty that a person is guilty or a particular fact exists. It must be more than an imaginary doubt, and it is often defined judicially as such doubt as would cause a reasonable person to hesitate before acting in a matter of importance.

Reasonable doubt is a standard of proof used in criminal trials. When a criminal defendant is prosecuted, the prosecutor must prove the defendant's guilt 'Beyond a Reasonable Doubt' which is a legal standard of proof required to validate a criminal conviction in most adversarial legal systems.

Have trust in yourself, to know that you won't ignore your inner-voice (your instinct) when it tells you that something isn't right. Trust yourself not to hide your feelings, trust yourself to make sure your needs are met, and trust yourself that you won't lose your sense of self-identity and build your confidence.

Confidence is often considered a "soft skill." Experience shows that confidence can and should be learned and practiced. Self-confidence is defined as a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment. Self-confidence is fundamental to your health and psychological well-being. Having a healthy level of self-confidence can help you become successful in your personal and professional life.

Remember that if you want to build a business you need to have confidence in yourself and If you want to build a great business, you need to have confidence in everyone else too…
