E243: Want to Fail as a Leader? Surround Yourself with "Yes People.."
Remember that boss? The one surrounded by lackeys too scared to disagree and too mediocre to offer fresh ideas? I bet they weren't setting the world on fire, were they? Because the old cliché about "being the smartest person in the room" has it tragically backwards.
True brilliance in leadership isn't about your IQ; it's about assembling a team who outshines you in specific areas.
Think about it:
Here's the thing: It takes a secure leader to do this. Someone more invested in the win than their own ego needing to be stroked. Sadly, that's rare. Most of us have that knee-jerk defensiveness when challenged.
But, when you create that culture where brilliance thrives? Now you're unstoppable. Imagine a table where egos get checked and solutions emerge that no single person could have conceived alone. That's innovation. That's the kind of place people fight to be a part of.
Catch yourself: Next meeting, are you subtly shutting down debate, or actively seeking input from those who usually stay quiet? Is disagreement treated as a threat or an opportunity?

This ain't some touchy-feely move – it's about results. Name any iconic leader; I guarantee they were surrounded by giants in their respective fields.
So, what scares you more - strong personalities who challenge you, or the mediocrity that comes from being king of a tiny hill?
