This Earth Day, join the Climate Party in calling the UK Government to #InvestinThePlanet

Earth Day takes place on 22 April 2023, the 53rd celebration of the day credited as being the start of the modern environmental movement. This year the theme is Invest in the Planet – a call for governments, businesses and individuals to “help accelerate the transition to an equitable, prosperous green economy for all.”

Of course, asking a private individual to transition a national economy is an impossible ask, but when individuals come together and collectively take on the government, the seemingly impossible becomes plausible.

And that’s exactly what the Climate Party is doing. We are a one-policy party striving for Net Zero by 2030. Not only will this help to keep us safe but it will also create an exciting economic opportunity for the UK.

How could this work?

Let’s take the estimated £200billion the government is spending on the Energy Price Guarantee as an example.

By investing this instead on insulating and fitting solar panels on UK homes, the government could in one fell swoop alleviate Britain’s domestic energy and cost of living crises, while simultaneously supporting the UK’s net zero commitments. By mobilising the private sector to meet this need, the government could bring a much-needed boost to the UK economy and job market.

British people, including many of our grandparents and great grandparents, have worked hard over the years to source energy to keep us warm and safe. However, the science is now telling us that we need ways to fuel our homes, cars and businesses. This is a huge opportunity for our country. A recent research report from Deloitte suggests that with ‘coordinated and rapid decarbonisation and the right policies in place’ more than 300million jobs in the so called ‘Green Collar’ workforce will emerge globally. Let’s seize this opportunity!

Help us call the government to #InvestInThePlanet by joining us at The Big One in Westminster on 22nd April! This will be the biggest gathering of climate activists in the UK for many years. Ed will be speaking and running some ‘How to become a local councillor sessions’. Sign up HERE and find out more about the Climate Party HERE.
