Annie Cohen-Solal, a French historian, is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at Bocconi University in Milan. She is the author of several books, including Jean-Paul Sartre: A Life, Mark Rothko: Toward the Light in the Chapel, and, most recently, Picasso the Foreigner: An Artist in France, 1900-1973.
