EdTech Access and Resilience in Malawi

Pilirani Kumasewera, EdTech Hub's country co-lead for Malawi recently participated in a panel discussion centred on the utilisation of EdTech in Malawi to promote equal access, elevate educational quality, and enhance governance and resilience within the education sector. Joined by Professor Joshua Valeta, Director of Open Distance and e-Learning at the Malawi Ministry of Education and Benedicko Kondowe, the Executive Director of Civil Society Education Coalition (CSEC), Pilirani underscored the imperative of diligently expanding EdTech initiatives to cater to out-of-school learners, taking into account Malawi's rapidly growing population.

Professor Valeta articulated the government's strategic approach to ensure universal access to Malawi's educational technology system. He emphasized the government's commitment to addressing three primary education objectives:

  • Ensuring equitable access to education for every Malawian learner.
  • Elevating the quality of education and aligning it with relevance.
  • Enhancing the governance and resilience of the education system.

In pursuit of these goals, Professor Valeta highlighted a range of innovative strategies to support educators, learners, administrators, and managers. The Malawi government is actively cultivating an enabling environment to guarantee equitable access to education, enhance educational quality, and fortify governance and resilience, even in times of emergencies.
