Welcome back to another issue of “Educate. Inspire. Grow.”
In this edition we’re closing out UK LGBTQ+ History Month by bringing you an impactful new interview with Jude Guaitamacchi where they discuss the importance of knowing our history and the long term impacts of Section 28, a legislative designation in the UK that banned the “promotion of homosexuality” between 1988 and 2003.
You can keep scrolling to continue your LGBTQ+ History Month education with a curated selection of resources from our archive covering topics like intergenerational wisdom, the etymology of different LGBTQ+ labels and Queer icons throughout history!

FEATURE:
The Education We Never Had.
For UK LGBTQ+ History Month, we interviewed Jude Guaitamacchi about the negative consequences of failing to provide LGBTQ+ education.
“We can draw many parallels from the attacks on gay rights back in the 80’s and 90’s to the experiences the trans community is facing in the UK today. I am reminded of the similarities when it comes to the increasing transphobia, down to almost identical language used by political leaders, the dis-informative media coverage and attempts to introduce trans exclusionary measures into businesses, schools, and education.
But when we make strong comparisons by looking back into our history, we might just be able to find some answers and adopt similar methods to help us make positive change for the future.” - Jude Guaitamacchi

How to Uphold DEI Efforts Amidst Organisational Changes.
Join us on Tuesday 12th March and be a part of the conversation.
As redundancies and restructures become increasingly prevalent across various industries, exacerbated by the impacts of COVID-19 and the cost of living crisis, it's crucial to address the disproportionate impact on minoritized groups.
Join this webinar as we delve into the root causes of this disparity, discuss strategies to mitigate its effects and examine how maintaining Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts during challenging times can safeguard the rights and opportunities of historically marginalised groups in the workforce.

NEWS:
Creating Spaces for Women to Thrive.
Embracing inclusion sometimes necessitates creating safe spaces for individual groups to connect over shared experiences and challenges. We’re excited to announce that throughout March we will be hosting a range of events in Barcelona aimed at supporting the needs of the Queer women in our community through wellbeing sessions and peer to peer mentoring!
“Focusing on Queer women is about sorority and instituting care in times of radical uncertainty. This is a unique opportunity to unite Queer women across Barcelona in smaller spaces and let us connect to drive social change, increase personal and professional growth and use our community for knowledge and support. If intersectionality is essential, we need first to ensure all women can join the conversation, and we have created the space just for that!” - Sevi K. 🏳🌈 , WCS Community Director
