Most of our products comes with Handwheel or Gearbox+Handwheel as standard unless specified otherwise. But sometimes, the projects require Electric Actuator operated Valves. In this kind of situations, the "communication" between Valve Manufacturer, Client and Electric Actuator Supplier is crucial. Usually, the valve manufacturer becomes the middle party for this operation.
There are many products can be used with Electric Actuators, but in this article we'll go with DENZ B10 Double Eccentric Butterfly Valves.
The first thing needs to be determined is the Electric Actuator Brand.
There are many top quality Electric Actuator brands in Europe. Such as AUMA of Germany, Bernard of France, Rotork of UK and many more! When it comes to the selection of the brand, DENZ Suggest the usage of AUMA, Bernard or Rotork since both these three companies are supplying top quality products suits perfectly with DENZ's top quality valves.
But, other than this brands, there are also many local manufacturer brands for Electric Actuators. Usually the customers choose to go with them, when the project budget is tight. DENZ also have strong connections with other Local Turkish electric actuator manufacturers/suppliers.
The second thing needs to be determined on the actuator selection of a B10 Butterfly valves is the end users expectation from the Actuator. The selections of this segment goes wild!
Are some of the variables of selections for end users. There are also multi-turn, quarter-turn, modulating or On/Off type Actuators of Choice.
Another important and crucial part of the selection is the connection between electric actuator and the valve. Usually, on DENZ B10 Double Eccentric Butterfly Valves, the actuators mounted on the gearbox itself with ISO Top flanges. On this selection the responsibility belongs to the manufacturer, therefore DENZ Water Technologies.
We should know the gearbox ISO top flange dimensions and match the Actuators connection flange type.
And for the last, the most important part of the selection, the torque. In physics and mechanics, torque is the rotational equivalent of linear force. It is also referred to as the moment of force (also abbreviated to moment). In Valve world, the torque value used for determining the required force to open/close the valve.
Knowing the valves torque value is in manufacturers responsibility. We must be making all the tests beforehand to determine the torque values. And we should suggest the correct electric actuator. If the valve requires 98 N/m to rotate, we should suggest 120 N/m motors.

And the last but not least, the opening / closing times. According to the project needs, This information should be shared with the actuator supplier. So, the supplier can choose the input voltage and required power to operate the valve.
There usually are small handwheel on the actuators as can be seen in the picture on the left to operate the valves in emergency situations.
Electric actuator supplier should supply the electric diagram in order to be able to help installation team on the site.
There are at least dozens more electric actuator types to fit various of valves, from DN32 all the way up to DN3000. But in general, if the below points have been discussed with a good communication between valve manufacturer and client, the electric actuator selection is not something to be worried about.
