With the growing need for eco-friendly and convenient ways to get around cities, the Eli Zero electric micro-car enters the market as an ideal solution. Created by Eli Electric Vehicles, based in Los Angeles, this compact two-seater is specifically designed for city life, offering an affordable and efficient alternative to traditional vehicles. Already successful in Europe, the Eli Zero will soon be available in the US and is expected to appeal to urban residents who have short daily commutes and don’t require larger cars.

Priced at an accessible $11,990, the Eli Zero is part of a trend toward smaller, more economical vehicles that are better suited for city use and align with environmental goals. This micro-EV offers a cost-effective, eco-conscious transportation option, competing with other compact electric vehicles like the Citroën Ami and the Microlino. This new class of vehicles is increasingly popular among urbanites who prioritize affordability, efficiency, and a smaller environmental footprint.

Citroën Ami Buggy Concept is a micro-mobility recreational vehicle for use at the weekend, on holiday by the sea or in the countryside.

Eli Electric Vehicles first introduced the Zero micro-car in Europe and French Polynesia, where it was used for a range of applications like personal transportation, eco-friendly tourism, and even government operations. This widespread use highlights the vehicle’s flexibility and appeal for various settings, not just individual commuting.

The Eli Zero’s design is specifically tailored to meet the demands of urban transportation, addressing common issues like limited parking and crowded streets. It combines the compactness and agility typically associated with a motorcycle, while offering the stability and comfort of a small car. This makes it a great fit for busy city environments where maneuverability is key. With dimensions of 88.6 x 54.3 x 62.5 inches and a turning radius of just 11.8 feet, the Zero can navigate through tight city spaces and park easily in areas where larger vehicles might struggle.

Overall, the Eli Zero is crafted for urban dwellers who need a reliable and compact vehicle for easy city navigation and parking.

The compact design of the Eli Zero makes inner-city parking a breeze.

The Eli Zero is designed for efficient urban driving, powered by a 6-kW electric motor that drives the rear wheels. It has two driving modes and reaches a top speed of 25 mph, making it ideal for use on city streets and residential roads, but not on highways.

For battery options, buyers can choose between two types: an 8-kWh battery, which provides up to 60 miles of range, or a 12-kWh battery, which extends the range up to 90 miles on a single charge. The vehicle also features regenerative braking, which captures energy while braking to recharge the battery and help extend its life.

The Zero comes with a home charging kit, allowing owners to easily recharge at home. Charging time is between two to four hours, depending on the battery’s capacity and its remaining charge. This setup makes the Eli Zero convenient and cost-effective for daily city commutes and short trips.

The Eli Zero accommodates two passengers and offers trunk space sufficient for groceries or a gym bag.

The Eli Zero is designed with a strong focus on eco-friendliness, achieving over 285 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). This high level of energy efficiency means it uses far less power than most conventional cars and even many other electric vehicles. This efficiency benefits owners through lower fuel costs and also helps reduce air pollution in urban areas, supporting cleaner city environments.

Inside, the Zero is designed to be simple yet comfortable. The seats come in fabric or vegan leather options, making the interior environmentally friendly. It has glass doors and a tilting sunroof, adding to the open feel. Convenience features include keyless entry, air conditioning, and a digital display to show essential information. For safety, it has a rear parking camera, radar sensors, and an audio alert system that warns pedestrians when the car is nearby, which is especially useful given its quiet electric motor.

Overall, the Zero offers an energy-efficient, comfortable, and safe option for city travel while minimizing environmental impact.

For those interested in extra luxury, the "Plus" version of the Eli Zero micro-EV offers enhanced features. This model includes ABS for improved braking control, power-assisted steering for easier handling, and LED running lights for better visibility. Additionally, it can be equipped with a 10.1-inch Sony infotainment screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing for a connected and enjoyable driving experience.

The Eli Zero is set to launch in the US in the third quarter of this year, with availability through local distributors and dealers. With the US being the largest market for micro-electric vehicles, Eli expects to gain a strong presence as demand for compact, sustainable urban transportation grows. The company has begun taking reservations for the Zero, requiring a refundable $200 deposit. To meet anticipated demand, Eli’s assembly line, which has 11 workstations, can produce over 4,000 vehicles per year. This readiness positions Eli to deliver quickly to new customers as the Zero rolls out in the US market.

The Eli Zero electric micro-car presents a forward-thinking option for urban commuting by merging practicality with environmental sustainability. Its affordability, along with low operating costs, positions it as an appealing choice for city dwellers who aim to enhance their daily travel experience while being mindful of their ecological footprint. The compact design of the Zero makes it well-suited for navigating busy city streets and tight parking situations, further enhancing its practicality for urban use.

As cities expand and traffic congestion increases, the Eli Zero has the potential to significantly influence personal transportation in densely populated areas. By promoting a more efficient and eco-friendly approach to getting around, the Zero could help reshape our transportation habits and contribute to a more sustainable urban environment.

The Eli Zero offers LFP battery choices with either a 60-mile or 90-mile range.
