Eliminating "Action Friction" 😓

Eliminating "Action Friction" 😓

I started recording material for a new video course.

The original idea was, I would put visual notes on my physical whiteboard, then record myself standing in front of the whiteboard, using the notes as a guide for anyone taking the course.

Problem: this process was creating too much friction.

Friction: the force that resists relative motion between two bodies in contact

Using the physical whiteboard was taking too much time to set up; this led to production delays.

This outcome was unacceptable.

I decided to instead use the digital whiteboard on my laptop. I could get the rest of the course material recorded faster, more effectively, and more efficiently. All the while, I’d still produce the same outcome for course-takers as doing it the harder and slower way.

You may have some aspects of your business that, while knowing that they need to get done, you are still not doing them as consistently as you should.

You’re not a bad person.

You are not lazy.

You don’t – necessarily – have the wrong idea of what to do.

You have a process with too much friction. There’s internal resistance to doing the things that you know you need to do.

This leads to delays, procrastination, and things not-done.

Then you’re beating yourself up about what you’re not doing.

Feeling sheepish when confessing that your work is not done.

A general lack of productivity.

The result of all of this: Less business getting done.

The simple resolution: Remove the friction.

Change the set up of your situation such that it is easier to do the job.

Set yourself up to do more things that you like doing, that you are better at doing, such that they’re done more consistently and effectively.

This is how it looks and feels when you have the right processes and systems in place, at work and in life. It doesn’t mean the work is easy. But, there should not be friction for actually getting to work. Your environment cannot be working against you.

Too many entrepreneurs have an environment that’s antagonistic to their success, then wonder why they’re not getting things done.

When your work is structured and organized for flow, more work happens. When you have the right processes for that work, more work equals more results. In business, more results means more money. More customers and clients served, and everyone is happier.

Is that what you want?
