The Email Marketing Secret That Could Be Costing You Six Figures

The Email Marketing Secret That Could Be Costing You Six Figures

As a small business owner, you're constantly juggling multiple tasks, trying to keep your business running smoothly. But what if I told you that you might be leaving a significant amount of money on the table?

I'm talking about potentially six figures annually, all because of one often-overlooked aspect of your marketing strategy: email marketing.

The Common Email Marketing Mistake

Many small business owners I talk to are making the same crucial mistake when it comes to email marketing. They're either:

  • Sending quarterly newsletters, thinking that's enough
  • Emailing their list once a month
  • Afraid of annoying their subscribers by emailing too frequently

If this sounds like you, don't worry. You're not alone, but it's time to rethink your approach.

Why Infrequent Emails Are Killing Your List

Here's the harsh truth: if you're waiting 90 days between emails, you might not even be able to send them at all. Modern email protocols focus heavily on engagement. If your subscribers haven't opened, replied, or clicked a link in your emails within a short period, you might find yourself unable to reach them at all.

This engagement issue applies regardless of the email platform you're using, whether it's MailChimp, Keap, HubSpot, or any other system.

So, How Often Should You Email?

Let's break it down into a good, better, best model:

  • Good: Once per week. This is a solid starting point. It helps you build a consistent rhythm and keeps you in your subscribers' minds.
  • Better: Twice per week. Increasing your frequency to twice a week can significantly boost your visibility without overwhelming your list.
  • Best: Three to four times per week. This might seem like a lot, but remember: your subscribers (like you) have short attention spans. More frequent emails increase the chances of your message being seen.

Why More Frequent Emails Work

You might be worried about annoying your subscribers, but consider this:

  • The average email open rate is under 15% This means if you're sending one email per month to 500 people, only about 75 people are seeing your message.
  • Increased frequency doesn't necessarily mean decreased engagement Even if your open rate stays the same, more frequent emails mean more people are seeing your message over time.
  • Consistency builds brand awareness Just like with paid advertising, consistent presence in your subscribers' inboxes keeps your brand top-of-mind.

The Six-Figure Potential of Email Marketing

By committing to at least a weekly email in your business, you're opening the door to significant potential revenue. Consistent, strategic email marketing can generate an additional six figures for your business over time.

1. Increased Visibility Leads to More Sales

By emailing consistently, you're keeping your brand top-of-mind. When a need arises, guess who your subscribers will think of first? You. This increased visibility often translates directly into more inquiries and sales.

2. Nurturing Leads Over Time

Not everyone is ready to buy right away. Regular emails allow you to nurture leads, providing value and building trust until they're ready to make a purchase. This long-term approach can significantly increase your conversion rates.

3. Upselling and Cross-selling Opportunities

With consistent communication, you can introduce your subscribers to different products or services they might not know about. This opens up opportunities for upselling and cross-selling, boosting your average customer value.

4. Reactivating Dormant Customers

A robust email strategy helps you stay connected with past customers. By reminding them of your value, you can reactivate dormant relationships and generate repeat business.

5. Cost-Effective Marketing

Compared to other marketing channels, email offers an incredibly high ROI. With minimal costs involved, even a small increase in sales can have a big impact on your bottom line.

6. Building Authority and Trust

Regular, value-packed emails position you as an authority in your field. This increased trust can lead to higher-ticket sales and more referrals.

7. Data-Driven Improvements

Consistent emailing provides you with valuable data. By analyzing open rates, click-throughs, and conversions, you can continually refine your approach, leading to better results over time.

Remember, reaching that six-figure potential doesn't happen overnight. It's the result of consistent effort, valuable content, and strategic planning. But by committing to a regular email schedule and focusing on providing value to your subscribers, you're setting yourself up for significant growth.

Email marketing is essential. It is permission marketing at its best; your list opted into the list, and they can opt-out anytime. You will be rewarded if you provide value with your emails that are easy to digest and act upon. Great advice John Bellamy. We have moved from once a fortnight to more frequent but shorter emails and getting far better results.
