Embrace new but old ain't bad.

Embrace new but old ain't bad.

I truly believe that before venturing into "out-of-the-box" approaches in math, we must master the fundamentals – "do the box first." This resonated during a day spent with math wiz Yogesh Dhingra , reviewing the math curriculum across both Oberoi International School 's JVLR and OGC campuses. Our goal: to refine and strengthen our approach to mathematics instruction, ensuring a cohesive experience for all students.

We explored various contemporary math curricula, comparing their strengths and takeaways. A key highlight was the recognition that even innovative curricula acknowledge the value of traditional methods. This sparked nostalgia as we recalled internalizing multiplication tables, highlighting the importance of foundational skills. While embracing new teaching styles and tools like Desmos, we must remember that the "old" isn't bad. The key is balance. We must also equip students with hands-on skills, like using manipulatives and sketching to visualize problems.

Our initial conversation to align the curriculum evolved into a dynamic discussion on K-12 math standards. Nandini and I are committed to weaving the MYP framework into our program. Insights from CourseLeap Education reaffirmed our identity as "one school, two campuses."

As a leader of learning I can say that only a visionary school would allocate time and resources for such an endeavour because all that matters to this dynamic  team is learning and the quality of this learning. A big shout out to Bindu and Ashita for ensuring that we have the right support, resources and opportunities at the right time. This investment in curriculum review underscores our commitment to educational excellence. By "doing the box" – mastering the fundamentals – we lay the groundwork for students to confidently explore mathematics. This approach ensures they possess the knowledge and skills needed to embrace innovation and solve problems creatively. Ultimately, our goal is to cultivate a lifelong love of learning and empower students to reach their full potential.

'Embrace new but old ain't bad' rightly said.

Old is gold-so we were told! Jitendra Pandey, of all the people, you are someone who never fails bringing a novel idea or a fresh take on conventional wisdom for something that is seemingly straightforward. Thank you for bringing these boxes to us, we will definitely fill them first 😁

Thank you so much for appreciating us. Individually we are one drop, together we r Ocean. I hope you will understand this Quote. I like, sometimes it's important to think inside the box as similar to thinking outside the box.
