Embracing Change: From Roots to Scale-Up

Change is an inevitable part of life, and Tadaweb exemplifies this truth. Starting from its roots in New Zealand, we have undergone a remarkable evolution to become the thriving scale-up we are today. We recognized that the very strategies that brought us to our current point won't necessarily lead us to our desired future, and that's where change steps in.

Yet, change isn't always met with open arms. Our brains are wired to resist it, finding comfort in the status quo. We adapt to our routines, decision-making processes, and communication methods that have proven successful. This holds true, until it doesn't. As we embark on the journey of scaling up, processes become more intricate. With more people involved, the dynamics change, and so do the challenges.

At a certain point, a startup needs experienced leaders who can provide not just business guidance but also anchor and fortify core values. Staying true to these values is pivotal during change. In a small setting, role models can easily personify these values, but as the team grows, this becomes more complex. This is where the art of influencing and creating a ripple effect becomes crucial, spreading values across the organization.

Crafting avenues for effective communication is a must. This might involve creating opportunities for open discussions, such as the Gemba Walks, where the "why" behind forthcoming changes is explained. The fusion of these efforts fosters a sense of belonging and inclusivity among our team.

And then there's planning – an essential element. Clarity regarding objectives and understanding the "how" behind them is vital. A leader's ability to foster trust and confidence paves the way for successful change. However, let's not ignore the potential pitfalls – when things deviate from the blueprint, doubts and resistance can emerge.

How do we tackle this challenge? Through strategic planning. We must cultivate a mindset that sees change as beneficial, drawing from past experiences. By selecting changes thoughtfully and timing them right, we ensure a smoother ride for everyone involved.

Communication emerges as our guiding point in this changing journey. It's the linchpin that holds everything together. It's not just about sharing core values or outlining plans; it's about explaining the "why," providing reasons, and encouraging questions. No doubt, it's a challenge, but as we navigate the complex path of scaling up while changing, it's a challenge we're committed to overcoming.
