Let’s talk about brand awareness: The ever-elusive ideal everyone wants. 

And the key to unlocking it?

Employee advocacy programs.

In the past few years, The Wise Idiot has tried zillions of ways to promote brands. One of the most interesting and intriguing methods that have worked for almost all the brands, big or small, is the employee advocacy program.

This program is a way of spreading brand awareness through your team members who can share information about them and what they do with their personal networks.

In my opinion, it’s one of the most important things for building your brand presence. Here’s why:

  1. Employees are natural advocates because of their knowledge and passion for their work. Quite literally, there’s no one better to talk about your brand than them.
  2. People who love their work and want to succeed will naturally want to share these feelings with potential customers. For you, this is the perfect chance to give them a platform.
  3. Because many times people have a stake in the places they work, they know what’s working and what’s not. They take pride in working with you, and their social presence can attract new customers and spread awareness for your brand.
  4. Lastly, such programs make your employees realize that their decisions and thoughts matter a lot to the brand. In turn, they become even more engaged with the startup than before, which brings us to the all-important concept of loyalty in the workplace.

Through lots of trial-and-error, I’ve realized that the most important step in building a successful employee advocacy program is understanding your employee’s goals. Like everything else, this is a two-way street. Your employees get to increase their social media presence and network, and make new connections in their desired field for better opportunities inside and outside work.
