EPRI and Kraken have partnered to develop interoperability standards for distributed energy resources (DER) to accelerate the adoption of virtual power plants (VPPs). These standards aim to address scalability challenges, enabling VPPs to provide up to 160 GW of peak capacity in the U.S. by 2030, saving an estimated $10 billion annually. Through initiatives like Mercury and FLEXIT, EPRI and its partners are streamlining DER integration to enhance grid flexibility and energy management. Read more about this collaboration in the Utility Dive article.
U.S. Mercury Research Consortium launched to tackle environmental challenges
EPRI has announced the launch of the U.S.-based Mercury Research Consortium, bringing together over two dozen companies and organizations to address mercury-related environmental and health risks. The consortium focuses on advancing scientific research, promoting best practices, and implementing innovative mercury control technologies. This public-private initiative underscores the importance of collaboration and interoperability to drive progress in environmental protection and the energy transition. Learn more about this effort in the official EPRI press release.
Fermata Energy introduces online V2G calculator to assess Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) benefits
Fermata Energy has launched an online Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Calculator to help electric vehicle (EV) owners and fleet managers estimate potential savings and revenues from V2X technology. By inputting specific details about site characteristics, vehicle usage patterns, charger capacity, and local utility programs, users can receive tailored insights into the financial benefits of bidirectional charging. This tool simplifies the process of understanding how V2X can reduce energy costs and generate income while supporting grid reliability. For a personalized analysis, Fermata Energy offers further consultation to explore the unique potential of V2X at individual locations. Access the V2G Calculator and learn more about its capabilities on Fermata Energy's official website.
Nissan Ariya drivers can access Tesla Superchargers with a CCS-to-NACS adapter
Starting December 10, 2024, Nissan Ariya drivers can charge at over 17,800 Tesla Superchargers in North America using a CCS-to-NACS adapter, available for $235. This compatibility is exclusive to Ariya models due to their CCS connector, unlike the CHAdeMO-based Nissan Leaf, which remains unsupported. Looking ahead, Nissan plans to equip all North American EVs with NACS connectors by 2025. Learn more here.

Number of the Week: 64%
In the third quarter of 2024, solar energy accounted for 64% of all new electricity-generating capacity added to the U.S. grid, underscoring its growing dominance in the energy mix. This surge was driven by the continued decline in solar technology costs, supportive federal policies such as tax credits, and increased demand for renewable energy from utilities and businesses aiming to meet sustainability goals. The milestone reflects the critical role of solar in decarbonizing the energy sector and highlights the need for investments in grid modernization and energy storage to manage intermittent renewable generation. For a comprehensive analysis, refer to the Solar Market Insight Report Q4 2024.
