Archita Ray, a passionate research scholar from Indian Institute of Chemical Biology in Kolkata, embarked on her educational journey after completing her MSC integrated from St. Xavier’s College.

With a background in life sciences, Archita delved into the ecstatic world of biology, pursuing her PhD as she navigated the intricacies of research in a dynamic lab environment.

A Heart for Service

Amidst the rigors of her PhD, Archita sought solace in volunteering, a pursuit she had cherished since her college days. Her introduction to Bhumi came during the Bhumi India Run in 2020, where she discovered an opportunity to contribute to education for underprivileged children. Little did she know that this encounter would be the turning point in her life.

Transition to Online Teaching

As Archita eagerly joined Bhumi, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her plans for offline teaching. Undeterred, she embraced the online platform, venturing into new territory to impart knowledge to eager minds. The challenges of managing her demanding lab schedule and engaging with students in a virtual setting became the crucible for her growth.

From Math Volunteer to Project Coordinator

Archita’s journey within Bhumi unfolded as she initially took on the role of a math volunteer. Recognizing her dedication and proficiency, she gradually ascended to the position of project coordinator. Managing the intricacies of running the project, she demonstrated leadership skills that surpassed her initial expectations.

Archita’s unwavering commitment led her to take charge of the Ignite Shelters project (Bhumi’s program to transforming children’s lives through holistic education) in Kolkata, steering a diverse team through uncharted territories. Her ability to adapt and lead showcased her newfound confidence, a far cry from the introverted individual she once perceived herself to be.
