Engineered Manufactured Building Stock: Embedded Technologies for Regional into National Housing Solutions

The challenge in addressing any large-scale initiative is to either have extensive resources at your disposal, not least lots of capital, and make a splash in the market, as a competitive innovator and trendsetter for others to follow. There is sufficient evidence that this approach has been attempted at various levels, without much of a ripple.

The alternative to addressing the housing challenge from the inside out is to provide solutions that facilitate and enable external parties to join in.

This type of approach is normally associated with government incentives. While governing entities can be both supporters and significant beneficiaries of a more collaborative approach in the provision of housing stock, the platform for attainment is very much structured around the practical implementation of product-to-project delivery through design, manufacturing, and on-site assembly.

For such a co-op to exist, it needs a robust delivery platform in which contributing parties can engage and benefit from their participation, ensuring sustainability and offering long-term solutions for future building stock.

On the 15th of July, a website will be launched to explain in detail how such a platform can offer an alternative route to the market, providing an option to register your own interest if desired.

VEMAS & Housing First

The partnership between VEMAS and Housing First aims to support regional and national government entities in providing housing and other essential infrastructure (hospitals, schools, student accommodations, hotels, etc.). This partnership is based on a collaborative and integrated approach, using advanced construction technologies and sustainable practices to address demographic, environmental, and economic challenges.

This first international collaboration in supporting regional to national Off-Site build solutions is grounded in shared values. Training and development are vital in providing not only high-quality building stock but also additional societal benefits.

The transfer of knowledge is structured to facilitate a project, but it is also embedded within the regional educational infrastructure to extend beyond the duration of a project. This is one of the many advantages of offering a solution that operates from the outside in.

We are confident that a cooperative approach will become a more robust route to the market for OS-MMC (Off-Site Modern Methods of Construction) value chain contributors and look forward to seeing it grow.
