Envision Racing Managing Director & CTO, Sylvain Filippi, speaks on COP27 Panel
An expert packed motorsport-based panel including Sylvain Filippi, Envision Racing Managing Director & CTO, took to the stage on Thursday 10 November at COP27. Discussing the race against climate change: accelerating the transition to zero emission mobility.
The world’s transition to zero emission #mobility was a hot topic at #COP27 this year, with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship being a shining example of what can be achieved with #sustainable and alternative energy making it the perfect fit for the conference. Envision Racing Formula E ’s success is made possible through sponsorship by Teijin, ensuring motorsport is on track to be climate-friendly and zero emissions mobility.
But Teijin’s involvement doesn’t stop there, our #innovation in the racing suit field pushes the needle on performance. Teijinconex® is ideal for any applications where heat, flame and chemical resistance, comfort and flexibility are all important in keeping. Of course, this doesn’t have to be in Formula E - but for firefighters or industrial workwear and a whole host of other industries.
Barabara Silva, FIA Social Responsibility Manager and Formula E’s Sustainability Director Julia Pallé joined Sylvain on the panel at COP27 in November.
Taking place in Egypt, COP27 which is an abbreviation of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, discussing urgent matters regarding #climatechange. These extreme weather changes are no longer a phenomena, but are something we came to expect as the year unfolded and will continue to be expected if nothing is done to fight climate change by the world’s leaders.
The climate-friendly environment of motorsport in Formula E with the all-electric series having been the first net-carbon zero sport from day one of its existence. The Championship is preparing for its boldest move yet, cars will be lighter, faster and more powerful with Gen3 but most importantly will be more efficient than ever before.
It’s argued that the series is influencing other areas of the industry, with the improvement of electric road vehicles, demonstrating how quickly the technology had to be advanced to reach targets. Formula E is undoubtedly increasing the general interest in electric vehicles and putting them on more people’s radar. There are now 175 electric models in Europe alone, which is six times the amount that there were before the series began.
Filippi states that it is essential that himself and his fellow panellists have a presence at COP27, with the Formula E key goal being to “accelerate the adoption of #EVs” among others the conversation needed to be front and center. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues to set the standard since COP26, with plans to work even harder towards fighting climate change.
