What is the value of combining technical experience with marketing strategy?

On this episode of Built On Strategy, we are joined by Tamer Flores, former CEO of Biomedical Distributors and current Consultant for HairClub and CNB. We discuss the cultural, economic, and strategic differences in growing a medical supplier from a startup business to an industry leader between Latin America and the United States. Tamer used his personal experience as an engineer to solve a widespread problem with pacemakers and through innovation, as well as a small commercial operations team, increased a $20,000 initial investment 100 times every year for ~18 years. Due to regulatory measures, and the tendency for doctors not to adopt medical equipment in their private practices until they have been proven in the public sector, establishing a medical supply company in South America is much more difficult than in America. However, through collaborative efforts and strategy that employ specialized skills in each of his team members, Tamer was able to consistently compete and win against industry leaders and gain international acclaim in his field.

Guest Bio Tamer Flores is currently a Global and Domestic Strategy and Business Development Consultant for @HairClub; VC Senior Financial Advisor at @CNB; and former CEO/Head of Business Development and Strategy at Biomedical Distributors, who were recently acquired after almost 18 years of his leadership. In his position at Biomedical Distributors, he directly managed 8 senior executives and 30 indirect employees via an open-door policy for all staff while managing a multi-million dollar P&L. Adapting in everchanging business to business and business to consumer environments, Tamer led his company to a 25% year over year growth for almost 18 years.
