EPI Pen ALTERNATIVES
There are some allergic reactions that can be handled quickly and efficiently without the use of an EpiPen in my experience of almost 40 years in practice.
One that most intrigues me is the NINE VOLT BATTERY. It seems to be effective for snake bites, bee stings, spider bites and even mosquito bites if used within the first 3 to 5 minutes of the bite or sting. It seems that we have known about this for quite a while from the "Journal Lancet, July 26, 1986 page 229 Application of Electric Current for Snake Bite." Poison is a protein that is affected by electric current.
How to apply it is this easy; first wet the area to increase conductance. Then place the two poles of the battery on each side of the sting or bite for at least five to ten seconds, then turn the battery 90 degrees and hold again for five to ten seconds. You are done. Remember - you need to do this within the first three to five minutes of the sting or bite. It is for this reason that I include a nine volt battery as part of my emergency kit and pack.
It has been my experience from years of using this for bee stings and spider and mosquito bites and my patients that use it, that about 90% of the reaction and pain is avoided when used quickly.
It is always a good idea to have a backup plan in place when needed.
