Apple releases 59-page report (day before Amazon buys One Medical) on Apple's 8 year journey of using Apple Watches, iPhones, and iOS/MacOs software to advance healthcare

Apple's report covers the ways the Apple Watch, the iPhone and its iOS/MacOS software technologies are helping advance human health in the healthcare technology space. Noted in the official Apple Press Release, Apple shared examples of past studies and research with partners like the Heart Failure Study with University Health Network and the Digital Mental Health Study with UCLA.

Also, Apple's Health app can store Health Records from over 800 institutions across over 12,000 locations - making it convenient for Apple users to see their available medical data from multiple providers whenever they choose. Full press release by Apple can be read here: link.

One of Amazon's largest acquisitions to date is buying One Medical

Apple and Amazon making clearer moves in merging Healthcare and Technology. Indeed this move by Amazon will take them much deeper into the healthcare industry. Friend of the newsletter, Dr. Matthew Sakumoto, a clinician and digital health expert based in San Francisco, was recently quoted in NPR about integration across Amazon's health care services:

"I think it's going to be tough. I think even currently these pieces exist in silos kind of within Amazon's ecosystem, but if they can pull it together, I think it can offer a very holistic experience that we've really been missing in U.S. health care"

Time will tell whether this acquisition will help the trend of merging healthcare and technology - especially as still questions in regards of health data privacy and how it will be used within the Amazon's ecosystem (though as Matthew points out health privacy laws in the US provide a pretty good firewall for now).
