The "Eras Tour" Customer Experience in Rio de Janeiro 🇧🇷
If you've ever dreamt of attending a concert by your idol, maybe a pop or rock band, you know just how special and meticulously planned that moment is. From the anticipation of purchasing the ticket, nostalgia, and perhaps even traveling to another country – it's an experience filled with excitement and meaning.
In 2019, I decided to turn my teenage dream into reality by seizing the opportunity of the Spice Girls reunion. What better way to make my dream come true than to combine it with exploring England for the first time? The most unlikely and challenging part of the reunion was already accomplished – I had secured my ticket!
That day holds a cherished place in my heart as one of the most extraordinary of my life. The memories created were nothing short of incredible, set against the backdrop of iconic locations. I marveled at the spot where one of the most iconic 90s music videos was filmed, saw the original Spice Bus, and even sang with others to Spice Girls' tunes while navigating the underground. The culmination, however, was sharing the epic atmosphere with thousands of fans under the moonlight at Wembley Stadium.
During the trip, I had the opportunity to experience the exceptional level of British customer service at various historic establishments and renowned brands, all of which I highly recommend such as Fortnum & Mason and Harrods.
I would embark on this intercontinental journey again without hesitation, as many times as necessary. The joy of this experience extended beyond the concert itself. It began with the seamless online ticket purchase months in advance, a process during which I had no inkling of how magical the actual day would be. The entire journey was a testament to a flawless customer experience that exceeded all expectations.
Therefore, I can imagine how frustrated Taylor's fans would be after waiting so many months for the much-lauded tour to come to Brazil. Some years ago, the newspaper “O Globo” published a controversial report… According to the publication, singer Taylor Swift is not coming to Brazil anymore because her mother considers the country a "third-world country". Moreover, of course, there is one truth such as the advice to hear always what your mother says!
While the event was undoubtedly a spectacular showcase of talent, it is essential to address certain issues that arose, affecting both the audience experience and the reputation of event management.
We were pumped for an awesome show, it seems like some bumps in the road turned it into a bit of a rollercoaster for attendees of The Taylor Swift "Eras Tour" in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 🎢
The death of 23-year-old, Ana Clara Benevides Machado, during the first moments of singer Taylor Swift's concert on Friday (17) is the subject of major international press reports. In the media, the fatality began to gain repercussions soon after Taylor posted on social media that she was "devastated".
British newspaper The Guardian said that the audience at the concert complained that the weather conditions inside and outside the “Engenhão” were suffocating.
The Independent, also from England, pointed out that the fan's death comes in the midst of a "dangerous" heat wave affecting Brazil, and that Taylor even stopped the performance to ask her production team to deliver water to the audience.
In addition, Taylor divided opinion during the second day of her concert in Rio. Expectations were raised as to whether Taylor would honor the young Ana at the show this Sunday. While performing on the piano, Taylor played the song "Bigger Then Whole Sky". The song was not on the original set list and, according to the fans; the artist had already informed them that she would not be performing it. For this reason, fans saw the lyrics, which speak of the singer’s loss and her farewell, as a tribute to Ana Clara.
According to reports by Daniele, a friend of the victim who was with her at the concert, Ana Clara entered the Milton Santos stadium, where the concert was taking place, and began to feel ill during the second song because of the extreme heat. She was taken to hospital but didn't survive. The death was confirmed to TV Globo by the victim's relatives.
The authorities will investigate what happened at Friday's concert and the company that organized the event. Faults such as covering the air passages in the stadium, problems such as the lack of water distribution and the timing of the performance culminated in an unfortunate succession of issues that led to the fan's death. However, unlike a one-off weather event, the historic high temperatures that reached a sensation of 60°C in Rio de Janeiro had been forecast for days, maybe weeks. However, the team and the organization took the risk!

Lost in Translation:
Communication glitches were definitely a thing. Some peeps felt a bit left in the dark about changes and whatnot.
Safety First, Right? 🤔
There were some murmurings about security vibes and medical help – we all just want to make sure everyone's safe and sound, especially when we're out there having a blast.
After postponing her concert on Saturday, Taylor Swift took to the stage at the "Engenhão" Stadium, yesterday, to the delight of the fans who packed the venue in Rio.
You don’t have to be a Swiftie to have been touched in some way by Eras Tour, a stadium arena experience that kicked off in March. The tour, which pays homage to every era of the artist’s illustrious 17-year career, is set to become the biggest tour of all time only a third of the way through its run.
If you live in one of the 20 locales Swift, 33, performed at in the last 5 months, your city has likely seen a boost in revenue from the hundreds of thousands of attendees who traveled from near and far. If you don’t—or simply couldn’t snag tickets due to the cost —chances are you’ve seen clips of the three-and-a-half-hour show from celebrities’ Instagram stories.
While there’s much to say about the music, costumes, and production, the impact of the Eras Tour is starkly reflected in the numbers: a projected gross of $2.2 billion in North American ticket sales alone, and hundreds of millions of streams, reaching a nearly 80% spike in those listening to her music catalog in the weeks after the tour kicked off, according to TIME.
Let us turn these hiccups into lessons learned. Big shows like this need some serious TLC in the planning department. How can we make sure the next big gig in Rio is a flawless experience for everyone?
As we reflect on these challenges, it is important to view them as opportunities for improvement. Concerts of this magnitude require planning and meticulous project management execution. Collaborative efforts between event organizers, venue management, and local authorities are essential to guarantee the success of such high-profile shows.
Let us use this moment as a catalyst for positive change. The "Eras Tour" has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the entertainment landscape, but addressing these concerns head-on will only enhance future experiences for both artists and their fans.
At this point, talking about marketing strategy and the impact on the singer's personal image is the least of it. What could soften such unhappy an experience? Tickets forever and ever for these fans? Receiving kits at home? I believe the best Taylor's idea does not compensate for too many mistakes!
And, I hope that the arrival of renowned artists to Brazil not be affected by this sad event, still promoting a lot of joy and special moments for thousands!
On social media, the mothers of Swifties lamented the last-minute cancellation on Saturday and said that tonight, the stadium deserved to be empty. On the other hand, some companies involved such as GOL Linhas Aéreas and Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras promised customers to schedule new flights with free taxes.
I believe that Taylor must be regretting not having managed his team better in this situation and having tarnished his trajectory with a fatality that could have been avoided, clearly! The tour will unfortunately be unforgettable, especially for Brazilians.

1yI was thinking the same thing! But there was also a lot of lack of organization on the part of the company that brought the show to Brazil. They didn't think about the people; they only thought about profit, and it ended up as it did! It was definitely traumatic for fans and for her as well.
